I got an invitation to the "UCSB Reception for high-achieving applicants".. it says:

"Chancellor Henry T. Yan, in company with the Faculty and Deans in the College of Creative Studies, the College of Letters and Science and the College of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara are pleased to invite you and your parents to a UC Santa Barbara Reception for high-achieving applicants.

(Program info)

We look forward to recognizing your academic achievements and introducing you to the University of California, Santa Barbara."

Did anyone else get this? Does everyone get this? I'm guessing not because reservation is required because of limited seating ("Students may invite a maximum of two guests"). Is this kind of a likely letter? Thanks.

We received one also. UCSB is one of the schools my son was offered admission to, prior to even applying, due to California ELC. Our guess is that the letters went to those students who UCSB wants for the student to "remain interested", as the acceptance letters/emails start coming out within the new few weeks for all UCs, and other colleges. If you received one, they are probably interested in you, but it is not a sign of acceptance. (maybe soon for you though). :-)

The year my daughter applied a few of her friends were invited, and attended (She wasn't invited). I believe all of those kids were accepted (as was she). They were all high-achieving kids with great test scores. It gave them an opportunity to learn more about the school, and to fuel their interest in UCSB. What a great place to go to school-- we visited last weekend, and watched the surfers just off campus, in 75 degree weather before noon!

Did anyone go? I went to the one yesterday in Costa Mesa. They said that we were the top applicants and CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE ACCEPTED. They said that notices will be mailed out on Friday, March 17.

yeah well now that i think about it, it makes total sense because if answers come out friday, and this reception (for me, at least in sf) is on SATURDAY, then why would they reject me on friday and still invite me to the reception afterwards? anyways for those who went, WHAT was it?

Yeah if you got the invitation it means you're in

The LA presentation was terminally boring. It's kind of a waste if it's not on campus. Most of the presentation involved a panel taking silly questions from neurotic parents.
