You can't really compare each other by grades and SAT alone. Have you even considered the major you applied to? Sure, if you have a 3.5 with 1250 and your major is History you're most likely going to get accepted than when you apply for Business Econ. Do you really believe they don't look at the major you picked? If they tell you that they're more selective in some majors then most students would apply to different majors and change major once they're in. UCSB has a lax policy when in comes to changing major once you're enrolled. You just have to fill out a petition for change of major and if you're grade are good they'll approve it.

Biological Sciences, Bus. Econ, Engr, and Political Science, etc. are impacted at UCSB. While there are tons of students who start as Pre-Bus. Econ, about a third do not meet the GPA prerequisite requirements.

Two UCSB faculty members won Nobel Prize in Econ and Physics last year. That brought the number of Nobel Laureates to 6 in just the last 10 years and surpassed CAL and UCLA. UCSB has been consistently featured in US News. So it is just expected that UCSB's going to become more selective.

About the US News ranking, you'll notice that UCSD, UCI, UCD and UCSB are pretty much a few notch from each other. Did you notice that of all these 4 campuses only UCSB do not have medical school?

So be happy of where you get accepted. There are kids out there that are crying as of this moment because they didn't get in to any UC. Cherish the acceptances but don't let rejections get into you. After fall quarter/semester things will return to normal.College life is what you make out of it.

For the future Gauchos, see you in fall 2005. Can't wait to see new faces at the Dining Common =)
