Hey guys! I was just wondering what the limit is on the amount of units we're allowed to take during the summer session. Also, is there a minimum amount to be considered a full time student during summer? Thanks!

There are two 6-week sessions, A and B, that encompass the entire 12-week UCSB summer session. For each of these, you may enroll in 16 units (e.g., 16 units of A, 12 of B). For the other sessions that overlap with A and or B, this is limited as if you had added A or B units. Example: D overlaps with A, so adding 4 units of D is equivalent to adding 4 units of A for purposes of unit limits. Special case: C overlaps with both A and B, so 4 units of C limits you to 12 units of A and 12 units of B. I hope this is clear.

There is not a full-time vs. part-time distinction during summer.

Thanks, I just looked it up on their webpage and I think I’m starting to get it! I have a question though. Why are sessions D through G so much shorter? Is it a mix and match type of deal or is it totally dependant on the classes chosen? For example, let’s say I want to take Physics 6A during Session A. Does that mean I register for sessions D and F, or just directly to session A?

D through G are shorter to accommodate different courses. For instance, the first year language sequence is taught in three sequential sessions. I personally think that doing a full course in 2-3 weeks is silly (I have done it), as the amount of work is tiresome and your retention a year after completion is greatly reduced, but to each their own.

When you register for courses on GOLD, you are not asked which session(s) you want to register for: rather, you register for courses that have specified sessions.
