ucsb surf

hi there, i’ll be a new student at ucsb for the fall of 2017, and i was wondering what resources are available to students who want to learn how to surf and have never tried before. it’s something ive always wanted to do–my dad is from southern california (i’m from northern) and always talks about his days out on the ocean and i’m determined to give it a go. i’ve looked into it a little bit, and i know ucsb doesn’t offer lessons like ucsd through the rec center. if i’m correct, it seems my only other option would be to somehow learn through the excursion club or make friends with people who can teach me. any tips on how to learn and find gear to borrow would be really appreciated!
