UCSB TAG Questions

Hey my name is Gavin and I would like to attend UCSB during the 2017-2018 schooly year. I would just like to know if the TAG application allow exceptions for students. There are 2 requirements I cannot fill. Those 2 requirements are having 30 UC transferable units completed by the time you apply and finishing a UC transferable math course by Fall 2016. I will have 27 transferable units completed and wont be able to take the math class i need by the spring semester. I orginally had plans to meet both requirements by taking classes over thus summer. I planned to take 4 summer classes, but I was only able to take 3 classes, due to my dad passing away. His death took a huge toll on my mom which ended up affecting my schoolwork. The first 2 classes i took over this summer was math 107 and poli sci 121 at SBCC. Passing the classes was really tough with everything that was going around. Eventually my family told me I shouldnt take more classes over the summer since i shoud spend time with my family (mainly my mom). So i ended up only taking an anthropology class and not a statistic class with it (this is the math class i need to finish by fall 2016).

My question is will the UCSB TAG Addmission people let me submit a TAG Application anyway if I tell them what happened? Has anyone been able to apply without meeting all requirements. Thanks, Im just worried I wont be able to go to the school ive always wanted to go to for something i have no control over.

BTW sorry for the long post.

You can submit a TAG but they are usually quite strict on those requirements. That doesn’t mean you won’t be considered for acceptance anyways, of course, but since the TAG application is basically about meeting requirements for guaranteed admission, your TAG will most likely not be valid missing those two requirements.

Im going to call the UCSB admission people today and see what they say. Wish me luck.

There’s no wiggle room for TAG requirements. It’s basically a contract that says if I (student) do all of these things, then you (UC of choice) will guarantee that I get accepted. You may still be accepted under the regular decision process, but you would do better to TAG a school where you do meet ALL of the requirements.

Its weird since ive seen some people post the 30 uc transferable units can be in progress during the application progress.

I think you’ll find that you need 30 when you apply and a well mapped path to 60 when you transfer to qualify for TAG. That doesn’t mean you wouldn’t make it with out TAG, many people do.
