UCSB transfer appeals

So how does this process go? I talked to admissions and they rejected me on basis of my GPA, a 2.88. I'm getting a 3.0 after this semester and I work on the weekends so I couldn't be as successful in school as I wanted to be, #1, #2 is that if I don't end up going to UCSB, i'm going to have to quit my job in Santa Barbara and that is really going to **** me over financially. I talked to another admissions counselor and he sent me an email explaining what I needed to do. A couple professors at my CC have agreed to send me letters of recommendation to help me out, but I wanna know what the College Confidential community thinks I should write for my appeals.
Think I have a shot?

You are free to try.
But keep in mind that many others have the same situation as you, like working 30ish hours a week while keeping up good grades. If you can maybe tailor your case into a unique one, then sure why not. It would also help if your current grades are much higher than your application GPA. Good luck.

what is your major??

Hmmm I keep calling Admissions.
Jeez they don’t even put you on hold

i had a 3.4 and got rejected and i also work 30+ hours a week…im going to appeal with my spring grades that will hopefully bring up my gpa even more but i dont think the chances for appeal are looking to good this year

Anyone else planning on appealing with similar situations?

I had a tag with ucsb and was still rejected for fall '10. Admissions blamed in on a ‘computer glitch.’ I turned in a request to appeal and am currently pending. I received a message from admissions asking me to turn in my spring grades. I’m really upset with ucsb and I’m just going to stick with ucsc. I already paid for my SIR anyways.

good luck to all of you!

p.s: I had a 3.22

I have no idea why baypleas1 was rejected.

has anyone heard back within the last few days?

i was rejected because i had my math class in progress in spring…because of that i wasnt tag and they said they only had room for tag students this year…i appealed today and keeping my fingers crossed about getting in…i sir’ed to ucsd but will go to ucsb if i get in

Well, UCSD is supposed to be a good school, I had a friend who is going there. After failing to get down to SBCC (and screwing my transscripts up for 2 years kinda because of it) I resolved to transfer to UCSB but then decided to goto UCLA because I heard their Psychology department was far more prestegious (actually, I heard good things about UCSD’s first then decided UCLA might be even nicer lol). That was a good idea to keep UCSD in the back pocket but don’t worry too much if you have to go there, it’s a good school

not true, I got in without TAG. Then again I had all prereqs(except calc3 and LA) and IGETC completed with something like a 3.6-3.7 transferable GPA.

They told me if you had a 3.5 or above and no tag they were acepting people so pretty much if you didn’t have tag or above a 3.5 it was an auto reject

And I had all my pre reqs done with igetc also

@baypleas1- I was accepted into UCSB with a 3.3, and no TAG so unless my case was some how special ( which I very much doubt) they were accepting people with no TAG under 3.5

so they pretty much just make up lies…i hope my appeal works :(

baypleas1- ugh yeah, i hate that as well;not being able to know what is fact and what is fiction.
they are taking sooo long on my appeal, i submitted my appeal way before the deadline, and I have yet to hear an answer, while others have heard back in the matter of days. (i’m not trying to be a b**** i’m just frustrated!)

baypleas1 give it up already

Mickey what is your appeal gpa and bagels shut the **** up

My GPA is around a 3.1-3.3 (i took classes at a bunch of diff. colleges,so i’m not sure of the exact number) This spring I got an A in a class that I had previously failed,so that was the basis of my appeal. At the time they rejected me,my spring grades had not yet come out. I wish you the best of luck;this whole getting rejected thing sucks, and I hate having to wait so long to find out what they decided.
