so I was wondering if SB takes trasfer students with a 2.98 GPA?this is really getting me anxious as I am filling out the application.I know I will be denied form the SB TAG sinc it ask for a 3.2 GPA for the College of Letters and Science which I would unfortunately not have.I am applying as a regular applicant.

Last year’s admissions acceptance cut-off was 3.0 GPA.

But, every year is different and by no means does it mean you’re automatically disqualified from being accepted. And, don’t let your GPA discourage you! Make up for it by really going deep with your personal statement. Sometimes thoughtful and well written essay can hint to the evaluators that your GPA does not accurately reflect your full potential as a student.

Ray, we are on the same page. I am applying with a 2.89 as a psychology major my gpa will be at about 3.1 after the fall. Have you already done your math and english requirements any pre reqs? And what major? My counselor who is also a UCSB trasfer counselor told me that as long as you have your transferable math and english you should be fine. Im anxious too, but we have to really hope for the best.

UCSB’s College of Letter and Science is considered prestige. You will not be accepted below a 3.0 usually unless you are accepted through exception or through director’s review. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.

Yes, you are right. I spoke to admissions and as long as you’re above a 3.0 and maintain that you should be fine.

Not always the case. My roommate had a 3.40 GPA when he applied to UCSB and maintained that GPA through the preceding Spring. He was not granted admission (his intended major was mathematics under the College of Letters and Science). He didn’t have a TAG either (completed the final writing course too late).

Yeah, that what I wrote on my previous post. They really want the math and writing courses done before the spring.

I have the math and english done.done with IGETC.will have 60 units by the end of this semester.my only problem is finishing pre-requisites since Im a science major. Also, the College of Letters and Science may be much easier to get into since students who have much higher GPAs and and done with pre-requisites with chemistry can apply to the more selesctive program in the Creative Studies for UCSB.so that’s why I say may be I do have a chance at SB(slightly).but then again I could totally be wrong.

Just stay positive, you sound like you are on the right track. Good luck with everything, hopefully we both get in. UCSB is my top choice.

I will stay positive!is just this application process is so stressful thinking im not getting in.if worst case scenerio happens,i could just try again.

Yes, you’re right. I am also stressing, but if I don’t get in for any reason I will apply again next year and I will qualify to tag to SB. I hope everything goes well.

Have you talked to your counselor recently? Do they still stick to their original statement saying that as long as your math and english courses are done before the spring and you’re above a 3.0 then you’re fine? I have those courses done and have a 3.06 GPA and I am beyond nervous for my response from UCSB. I visited their campus recently and it is wonderful, I really wanna go there.

3.0 is probably around a 30% chance.

I haven’t talked to my counselor lately, however I did talk to different admissions counselors at SB and they have told me the same thing as long as your English and Math are done and you’re at 3.0+ you should be fine. My case is a little different now, I am taking my math right now so my chances of getting in now are very slim, so most likely I will have to appeal. I called them about the appeal process and they have told me that first of all I would have to be denied, then I would have to wait until I finish my math class so I can send them my transcript with a passing grade and as long as I have a 3.0+ my appeal should get approved. I am focusing more on that math class right now, I will worry about appealing later. Good luck and don’t stress out too much remember that you still have to finish strong this semester.

^^im taking my math course right now also. Does that pretty much mean we are rejected from UCSB and will have to appeal? How does the appeal process go?

What if you have a 2.9GPA with all your prereqs done?

Well yes and no, it’s all up to them. If we are in then good for us all we have to do is pass the math class. If we are rejected I was told that we have to wait until our grade has posted. I asked them about the appeal due date and they told me not to worry about since they still accept appeals throughout the summer. So in other words one way or another our priority right now shouuld be the math class. Anyway, what’s your major,GPA, and is SB your first choice?

@Jshong I’m not sure it all depends what your major is and all that, I have heard a solid 3.0 with all pre-reqs. done will get you in but there are some exceptions. I was also told that it depends how many TAG applicants they receive.

okay, that makes sense. Thanks! Yeah, im sure I’ll pass my math class though. I have a solid B right now and theres only 2 weeks left of school. My major’s political science, GPA is about 3.65ish i think after fall grades and I’m not really sure about my first priority. I always wanted to go to UCSD but recently UCSB has started to sound more appealing socially. Its going to be a hard decision lol. wbu?

So I checked today and looks like I will have to appeal, it shows that I was not admitted and I am almost sure it’s because of my math class. I’m going to call them tomorrow to get some more info about the appeal process.
