if you haven't seen my posts in the larger UC thread than i'll list my information
IGETC certified, history major, 3.73 @ application, 3.514 @ WIP

accepted: UCI, ? (i'll explain)
rejected: UCSB
pending (in descending order of importance): UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSC

it seemed odd to me that i was rejected to UCSB since i felt i clearly met the requirements so i decided to call the admissions office to see if they could shed some light on the matter. the admissions office was very kind in letting me know it was because i didn't fulfill the math and one of the english requirements by fall (both IP). i asked her if she knew what other schools would reject because of this, she couldn't tell me but was nice enough to say that "clearly at least 2 don't". pretty puzzled by this i asked her if she could clarify. she said, "well i shouldn't have said that" and asked what schools i had received acceptances from. i told her UCI and she said i'd be receiving at least 1 more soon. pretty nice of her to reveal that bit to me :P

anyway, hopefully this clears up some confusion for others and can help you better predict your own chances

One thing that might shed a little light for other UCSB applicants:

I just got a call today from SB. They wanted to know my midterm grades for my English and Math classes. They primarly were only concerned about those two classes which tells me the essential skills requirement must be met in order to transfer. She told me that, since I'm passing both classes, this was very good news for me and that I'll be hearing from them this week. Although she wouldn't say if that was an unofficial admission decision, I took it as a good sign.

Oohh SNEAKY! I wonder if I can call UCSB and find out if UCLA is planning on accepting me. hehe
Anyone know an admissions officer personally? :)

i knew it.... I just would not believe that they would reject a 3.73 History major, but now that I know it was the english requirement and not pre major courses, I am very happy!

student4u, yes. to satisfy the math and english 1b requirement. i'm not too concerned at this point ince UCSB was ranked 6th out of my 7 choices, i'm more concerned as to how my higher priority schools will view this same material. hopefully UCB doesn't reject for the same reason. also wondering which one i got into along with UCI

jeez. I thought they let everyone in w/ an IGETC and 2.8

UCSB is actually pretty clear about the guaranteed transfer, save for the max units issue. On their transfer page, it details the seven general ed classes you need to take to transfer (IGETC can be substituted, but IGETC covers all of those classes anyway, so it's pretty much the same)
