I’m really hoping that i get into Manzanita since I heard it is the largest dorms. If i’m really really lucky, they’ll pull my name for a single hahahaha. Dorms were my first choice and then Santa Yvez and third choice was Westgate. I sent in my form a long time ago, i’m really happy this month they tell us where we’re going to be.

crosses fingers Single, give me a single room PLEASE!

I’m so excited!!! I just got placed in Santa Ynez 2 bedroom apt. Dorms were my first choice but now i’m living in an apartment sooooo much cheaper than dorms. Any one else get housing choices?

^ Ditto. I got the same exact email earlier today. :)

Santa Ynez / 2 bedroom.

How do the apartment rates compare with the residence halls? Ours is $521 a month. A residence hall would be a little over $12k a year…is that per person? And for how many months?

Because, if that’s per person and for 9 months, that’s like twice as much as what we’re paying. o.O

I was assigned to the Santa Ynez apartments with 2 bed/2 person or 2 bed/3 person apartment too. I got the email last night at about 9:00. Does anyone know how far the apartment is from the campus? I have a beach cruiser and a scooter…which one would be better to get to classes?

Does anyone know if it’s typical for Saint Ynez students to bike to UCSB? I know biking is typical for on-campus residents, but Saint Ynez is north of IV, so I don’t know if that would make biking less convenient.

Well, Santa Catalina residents certainly bike to campus, and so do people who live in San Clemente. A bike path runs parallel to (but separate from) El Colegio. I’d think that Santa Ynez residents bike to campus too.

Sounds good. So, what’s Santa Ynez close to? I see a bunch of apartments on the maps, but how about stores? Are there any reasonably-priced Asian markets in IV?

Just to answer a few questions… School owned apartments are generally a lot cheaper than the dorms. They don’t include meal plans (although you may add that one separately), but I think it’s still a good value. You’d definitely want to bike. Most stores in Isla Vista are along the Pardall Road area, so it would be an easy bike ride away. Keep in mind that IV is really small… you’re not going to find a lot of variety such as ethnic markets. The closest Asian market would be across from the K-Mart in Goleta. You can take a number of buses to get there.

Santa Ynez for me to. I’m pretty excited although I was hoping for a dorm. The email says that there was no room in the dorms for transfer students? They must have a ton of new students next year. Now I just hope I get a good roommate.

Did anyone volunteer to be put in a room of 3? I just couldn’t do it lol. I don’t know if that’s being selfish or if i’m just extremely private. one other person is fine lol, but two?!? I guess that’s college for ya. But i think i wouldn’t mind if in the end i do get into a room of 3 :o)

what did you guys put for the roommate preferences?

Lol, no need to feel guilty. I didn’t either. I doubt these rooms were even made to fit three people. Plus, I’ve been sharing my room with my brother for the majority of his life, so I don’t feel very selfish for wanting to just keep it at two. :)

I’ve assumed for the past few days that, despite having only two or three people per room, it’ll essentially be like having three or four roomates in total, with four to five people “per apartment”.

Would that be correct? For example, I spend significant time with other people in my house, even though they’re not “in my room”. Do the questionnaires above refer to everyone in your apartment, or just the one or two others who will share your room?

in the steps to enrollment part of my transfer page, there is still an exclamation point next to housing. But i’ve already turned in my contract. Is there any step that i’m missing?
