UCSB Transfers ~ Housing Plans?

that really sucks. i hope it’s not like that next year, cause i really want to stay in the dorms.

they had the san raf dorms for transfers last year, unless its going to really be social and fun, i wouldn’t recommend it cause its small, and you have to share a room, expensive, might not like your roommates or suitemates and may be stuck with them for the whole year, also you get kicked out during breaks, people go home anyways but…some people want to relax for a day or so after finals but they just tell you to unplug everything, lock your windows, and do a check/sign out sheet. What sucks is they make you do that for every time you go on break and for thanksgiving you have to come back after a few days and redo everything. What also sucks is that for out of state students and international students with no place to go really, they charge you extra, somewhere around 200 dollars? on top of what you’re already paying. Also live in the apartments if that is going to be your only home since for apartments you can stay for break. Dorms is like thanks for your only now get out! also eating the dorm food everyday for the whole year was bad.

Hi, I’m currently hoping to get into UCSB for the next coming Fall 2012 semester. I was wondering what you guys thought about the dorms vs living in apartment or other housing. Was the dorm experience worth it or would you have rather lived in a different housing situation? I’m in the biggest debate on whether or not I want to dorm and wanted to know how everyone else felt or thought of it.

I would recommend the dorms. Its an instant social network, a way to get grounded in the school and have someone to turn to for answers, and having meals prepared for you saves some time. There is an adjustment from living at home (which I assume you’re doing now as a CC xfer) to being on your own, and the support structure of the dorm helps make it easier.

I know someone who was a xfer to UCSB who got a room in an apt and felt like it took a few months to really get to know people and feel comfortable at the school. Of course that is only a sample size of one.

this is what i plan to do in the Fall. Ill be transferring in. I hear that they arent as social, but aren’t ALL res halls like 10-12k depending on the meal plan? whereas apartments run about 5 for nine months?

Since this will be my first year there i was recommended a res hall to meet people, but is the 6-7k extra really worth it?

I also noticed that there are only so many apartments available, since i am transferring will i find it competitive to get one??

[plz help!]

Let’s just get a group of transfers and rent a house together. YOLO  who’s down?

Xalainbonusx- Your down to do that?

Jiggalow: Super down. Let’s start a Facebook group!

[The New Tahitian - Leasing Center Welcome!](thenewtahitian.com) so nice!

Is housing first come first serve? I haven’t even committed to UCSB yet because I am still waiting to hear from one more school. If I go to UCSB, I would like to live in a single in Manzanita.

Housing isn’t first come first serve. As long as you get your application in before the deadline you’re guaranteed into the residence halls, the college owned apts are by lottery.

Xalainbonusx- i dont have a facebook, which street are you looking to live on? For me its either Sabado or Pasado i went to deltopia and DP can be loud at times.

I don’t really care what street. I’m just thinking since the dorms are over a K a month, might as well have a house/apt. More freedom, and cheaper.

Xalainbonusx- Ya thats what i was thinking too, im going to summer school tho cuz i wanna get the pre reqs outta the way like that Writing 106 and the Math series but Craigslist has some ppl who need roomies, but the Tahitian is also nice but its quite away from the ragers, if thats ur thing.
