UCSB, UCLA, USC, UCB, UCI,UCD

I think you’ll get into UCSB, UCI, UCD, and possibly USC. UCLA and UCB are reaches since they have average UC GPAs of 4.3-4.4 and weight test scores less than GPA.

@Gumbymom Did you give me the chances considering this suspension? And also what I have done to change myself? Thanks

@offalutensil Yea, I know I didn’y do a good thing, but honestly her words are coming from a family member of someone with brain damage because of what happened. As much as I bullied, bullying a bully is like killing a murder(not government associated) so she should look back and change who she is and think about her family experience(as an adult! not even an immature sophomore, which I blame myself for.

UCI/UCSB/UCD: Low Match
USC/UCLA/UCB: Match

considering the suspension? Thanks, Im just really worried about that. @MathFan21

@persia5 Hopefully, if you write about how it was a VERY MINOR issue, it won’t be that big of a deal? Will it even appear on your transcript? If not, then don’t worry about it!

I think it will but I’m writing how my home life changed, gaing more chores growing me as a person, which also made me open up and make the club. Bcause if I say it was minor(which it was since he’s my friend) colleges will say how I haven’t learned from the experience. Do you know if UCLA, UCB UCSB, Stanford and such do interviews?? Cause I can get them with a nice leadership talk on my life around this time???

@MathFan21 ^^^

The UC’s do not do interviews except for UCB which does interviews for Regent scholarship qualifiers. LOR’s at UCB may be a replacement for interviews??
Stanford will do interviews see below:
Optional Interviews 2015-2016 Admission Cycle
Stanford freshman applicants in many domestic and international areas may be offered the opportunity to meet with a volunteer alumnus or alumna for an informal conversation, an optional interview that provides applicants with the opportunity to learn more about Stanford and to allow Stanford to learn more about them. Alumni interviewers enjoy meeting applicants and sharing their own Stanford experience with these students.

Students applying Restrictive Early Action (REA) and Regular Decision (RD) may be eligible for an interview if they live in one of the 62 locations offering interviews during the 2015-16 admission cycle. Due to limited alumni volunteer resources, living in an interview area does not guarantee that you will be offered an alumni interview. Please understand that if you are not offered an interview, it is not a reflection of your application but of the availability of our alumni volunteers. Interviews are not a required part of the application process and applicants may decline for any reason without penalty. Applications to Stanford will be considered complete with or without an interview.

@gumbymom thank you, so did you give me my chances based on the suspensions as well?? And My UC GPA is higher because I included non a-g courses.

Also was it good to tslk sbout the suspension on one of my essays??(good essay, just the subject)

I think if you addressed what you learned from the suspension, then you should be fine. Essays are subjective, so too hard to determine how much of an impact they will have on the reader regarding the suspension.

By addressing, you mean through essay? Or should my counselor have it in hers about my personal house life and the suspension. She said she will write how it was a one time thing, or is it good that I have an essay for my lessons? @Gumbymom

You better address the suspension issue. Silence, only gives the impression of an inexcusable offence in the minds of adcoms!
(Though still may remain inexecuable…but could at least reduce its severity by your explanation and expression of remorse)

You do know UC’s don’t allow letters of reccomendation right

@MathFan21 i wouldnt risk that because UC’s specifically ask whether or not you have ever been suspended

I agree @BucketsUCSC I have thoroughly stated what I did and have said what I’ve learned. But UC’s do allow letter from counselor(required)

@persia5: Unless you get a request from UCB for LOR’s, your counselor will not have an opportunity to address the suspension and the rest of the UC’s do not accept LOR’s. I hope you addressed it in one of your essays.

@BucketsUCSC My UC GPA is 4.25 thanks for the reminder too
what do you think my chances are with such suspension and my EC’s(and grades duh)

If you won anything major through any one of your clubs/activities/sports I would give you a medium-high match for UCLA. Think 65% chance you get in. Other wise, this may be more like a 45-50% chance. If you are an OOS student, half these numbers.

Your numbers are definitely strong for the UC’s and you definitely have a varied set of activities, but I think it would be to your benefit if you doubled down on a couple and excel at a few.

But yeah especially for you, you shouldn’t be worrying about this too much. Your SAT scores are really good and should make up for some weak spots that may be on the app.

Also, UCLA will be accepting more in-state students than normal the next two years due to a $25 mil funding offer. The UC’s, being desperate for money, have signed the contract and have already laid out a plan for upping Cali admissions- even at UCLA. So, more power to you if you’re in-state.
