I got accepted at UCSB with regents scholarship and UCLA but i am having some trouble deciding where to go as these are my top two choices. The scholarship is helpful but the money isnt that big of an issue in my family. I really would like to go to UCLA but wouldnt like to miss out on the social scene at UCSB either. What do you guys think?

What's your major? How much is the scholarship worth?

the major is bizecon at both schools. The scholarship would be 6k per year for four years.

dude, go to UCLA, u may have to give up a small amount of social life (v. small, LA is also a party-city), but you will be in a much better pedestal for later life.

going to ucla can only help you...

are the schools really that different academically? also which school has a more laid back atmosphere when it comes to academics

A lot of people would kill to be in your position! That's a lot of money but if thats not an issue for you, then go with UCLA. Also I think anyone would be over the UCSB social scene after a year or two so that shouldn't be a big factor in your decision.

UCSB is definately more laid back I think. It's right by the beach and it attracts that type of person. It's a gorgeous campus but I agree UCLA would probably help you more later in life.

what do you guys mean by it will help me later in life? how about the college experience itself? which would be more fun?

UCSB is more fun. But LA would look much better when applying for jobs and/or grad school. So it depends what ur looking for I guess.

as of now im leaning towards SB but i am also worrying that i might regret LA for the reasons you metioned

What would you guys do if you got into UC-Irvine with a Regents' scholarship (full financial need for all four years of attendance) vs. UCLA with $23,000 in loans per year (scholarships only total $16000, out-of-state so the cost of attendance is $41,000 or something ridiculous like that)?

Also applied to Berkeley and San Diego campuses...

you have a month to decide, I'd say visit both and see which fits you better. ucsb is a residential college in a smallish town, ucla is in the city and after soph year kids disperse to the community. Likely one is a better fit than the other for you. Biz-econ at both schools is good, of course ucla has a national rep as one of the best public U's there is. But since people are talking "later in life", 15 years after you graduate nobody is going to care where you went to college; it will all be what are you doing at work and how are you performing. But you'll still remember where you went to college, and if its with regret you didn't go to the school you really wanted then ucsb might be better for you.

I would pick UCSB, its not as prestigious as LA but it still has a good reputation and almost everyone who goes there loves it.

how are the job possibilities at UCSB for a business major? is it possible to find internships and what not during the school year?

u can still get great jobs after sb, but be warned...

if you are applying for a bizecon grad school after UCSB, and the grad school has to decide between you and a UCLA guy (same approx. stats), they will most probably pick the LA guy... its a question of prestige at the U level.

the problem is basically, what do you want from your college experience? Better social scene? or better education/prestige level?

If you can answer that, you're set for your choice.

Good luck in all your endeavors...

thanks for you help all. how about jobs before graduation? are there opportunities avaiable in the santa barbara area?

I highly suggest you go to LA...you'll meet amazing people there...I dunno if you'll meet amazing ppl at SB, but hey there's a lot of hot guys at SB I heard!!!

and hot girls....

I would choose the UCLA Business Economics program.
Much better respected than a diploma from the University of Casual Sex and Beer.

Depends on the program honestly. I'd take the UCSB physics program over any UCB acceptance (or UCLA) any day of the week. But then again... that could turn out to be a huge mistake if you dont know if its something that you REALL REALLY want to do.
