I just got accepted off of BU's waitlist and now I am torn between the two. I am from Massachusetts so BU is close to home, but UCSB would be a completely new experience. My major is linguistics, but that is not set in stone. I am nervous that at UCSB the only thing to do is go out and get drunk. While I do like to party, I don't like to do it all of the time. I feel like BU has more options because it is right in Boston. Help!

^ You’re going off the stereotype of UCSB. The school does very well academically, socially, and has a lot out offer. All that you need to bring is self-control.

I honestly don’t think that the out-of-state tuition (on top of the fees, room, and board that are already paid) is worth it for anybody. Looking at BU’s cost of attendance, though, I guess it’s pretty close if you’d be paying full price to go there.

I do think I’m kind of projecting when I tell you that there are probably many, many more things to do in Boston than Goleta and Santa Barbara. If someone tried to make the argument that there are as many things to do in Santa Barbara as San Francisco (where I’m from), I’d think they were suffering from Gaucho delusion or something.

There are things to do here besides what you mentioned, but if you really like being in a metropolitan environment, I don’t think you would be completely keen on being at UCSB.
