So I've lowered my college choices down to these two schools. They're both wonderful schools, I know, but I absolutely can't decide which school I'll be more happy at. Chapman has given me a massive financial aid package that will make attending Chapman cheaper than attending UCSB. It also has small classroom sizes and a beautiful campus. UCSB also has a beautiful campus and is better ranked. UCSB grads are generally livid about their college experience while Chapman grads seem to love it or hate it.
Where should I go!?
(My intended major is English and Economics)

a’snb’s since you are planning to be an English major, please tell me what you mean by “livid.” Luke warm, maybe? Tepid? Or really really angry?

Both will give you a great education.

Chapman = Small, nice, The OC.

UCSB = Large, beach, college town.

Both are great schools. Here are some questions you need to ask yourself. What is your family’s financial situation? Do you have plans to go to grad school? Are your parents retiring soon? Do you still have brothers or sisters that will be going to college? Also keep in mind that the public universities have been raising the cost of an education consistently. Just based on the aid package, Chapman would be a no-brainer. Do you prefer small class sizes where the professors know your name? Do you prefer to be taught by a professor or by a TA in a lecture hall of several hundred students? That’s the big difference between the two schools. Chapman, a private school. UCSB, a public school.

Haha thanks shakespeare fan for pointing out my misnomer for all the world to see! Please excuse my incompetence I mistakenly used the word livid to mean enthusiastic.
And thanks OCelite, these were the factors that I was considering myself. The small classroom sizes at Chapman pose a great advantage for me. However, judging by your name I feel as if you’re a tad biased…lol

Haha applesnbannanas, don’t feel pressured by any means. When DS was accepted to Chapman and the UC’s a couple years ago, we also went through it, so you’re not alone. Chapman was DS’s first choice so that made it a bit easier for me. Choosing the right fit can be daunting work. Now at least you have some notes to compare the differences. Best of luck in your decision!

i like chapman better :). but thats just me because both my aunt and sister went there.

I think you will be more likely to graduate in four years from Chapman, as the state schools are having such funding problems. This will compound the financial advantage of going to Chapman.

Both are good schools with a good reputation. Pretty even in that regard, it seems to me.

The atmosphere of the two campuses is very different. If you can see yourself both places, I’d probably go to Chapman.
