Hi, I got in for Chemical Engineering to UCSB and I am waiting for Cornell decision
acording to rankings ChemE in UCSB is rated higher than ChemE in Cornell, but Cornell is rated higher overall than UCSB, so my question is which would you choose?
UCSB or Cornell? taking into account that I will major in ChemE, an area where UCSB apparently excels
Thanks

Well if you for sure know that you will stick with your major, go with UCSB.

Keep in mind, though, that the average student changes their major 3 times while in college.

thanks for the answer
and yes, I am very sure I will major in ChemE

anyone else?
come on I did this in Cornells board and most of their responses where in favor of their university
antone to speak up for UCSB?

Ucsb or cornell
It doent really matter for undergrad

UCSB’s Chemical Eng., Materials sciences and a few other Eng. departments are among the best in the country. I read your Cornell thread. They are under estimating UCSB’s Chemical Eng. program. And they have no clue how beautiful UCSB is, all year long. You will also find a lot of international students as well, some of my best friends in UCSB are international students.

Having said that, if you are looking for university’s prestige as a whole…Cornell trumps UCSB. Since you are an international student, the subsidized public education at UCSB will not make a difference to you.

UCSB and Cornell will offer you completly different lifestyles. UCSB is very laid back, you will be in an awesome Eng. Department surrounded by moderatly intelligent UCSB student population (who knows how to have fun). I cannot comment on anything related to Cornell, because I have no clue how the life style is over there.

I can tell you one thing, you will not go wrong either way. Good luck.

FYI, not many UCSB students comment on these discussion boards. We would rather spend our time studying or enjoying the beautiful SB’s spring weather. :)
