I got accepted into both with $23000 in grants from UCSB and a $30000 Liberal Studies Scholarship and a $4000 Pell Grant from NYU. This would leave about $33000 to pay for UCSB each year (OOS total $56000) and $20000 from NYU (total $54000). I'm assuming the scholarship from NYU is renewable. I have $18000 per year for college thanks to my grandparents. UCSB is my top choice, mostly due to location. My major is undecided. Would it be impractical to go to UCSB when I'd have to take out $15000 in loans each year as opposed to $2000? Would applying for outside scholarships really help?

So UCSB is 33k and NYU is 20k. That seems like a no-brainer.
Besides the location, which campus feels right to you?
Where would you like to end up after college?
Paying 13k/yr for 4 yrs just to be near the beach is awfully expensive. You could use that 50k to spend summers interning in SoCal and still have alot left over.
Outside scholarships are really hard to get to fill the gap, especially at this late stage.
