DS accepted to both UCSB and Davis for Econ/Accounting/Business. He seems to favor UCSB because of the location. Haven't visited either yet but any insight as to things to consider, etc... Also, still wating on decisions from McGill and Georgetown. Accepted to OXY, USD, Santa Clara Univ but cost is probably not worth it.

Thanks

I understand the econ/accounting degree at UCSB is somewhat unusual, and well thought of, from other posters here. I think I’ve seen that Davis is slightly higher rated in economics, but UCSB has a nobel laureate in econ on faculty… http://www.ucsb.edu/nobel/ The big accounting firms recruit at UCSB but probably also do at Davis I would think.

My sons are deciding between those schools as well, and one may go to each, in the end. Personally, I can vouch for UCSB being a wonderful place to go to college. My data is a bit dated, but my niece who graduated from there a few years ago feels the same. I also really liked Davis when we visited, both have college towns, which I like. I like the weather and atmosphere at UCSB in particular, however.

If there is not a strong reason to pick one over the other for his major, I would think location is a good reason for picking. However, he should definitely visit them both.

Here is a prior thread about the UCSB econ accounting major where a student in that major gave a lot of information (although it is five years old now that I look at it): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/682381-econ-accounting-major-info.html#latest

I’m choosing ucsb over ucd bc they are basically the same academically, but ucsb is so much nicer lol
