UCSB vs. UCD

I know this thread has been made before but I want to know a more updated version of this thread and maybe one for my particular position. I have been admitted into UCSB for fall 2014 and I have tag'd for UCD so i'm sure i will receive an acceptance from this campus as well. Both campuses are great academically.
So here is my situation.
I'm a bio major/neuroscience major.
I'm trying to find a campus that challenges me academically and also somewhere i can call home for the next 2 years.
What are some pro's and con's for both location? as far a the bio department, social life, location, etc?
It would be awesome to hear peoples opinions! :)

Well, UCSB’s a beautiful campus in a great location(I believe it’s within walking distance of the beach). It’s bio program is also higher ranked. Not that that really matters much, though.

UCSB is also known for its party scene. If you’re into that, go to UCSB. I don’t know much about UC Davis.

UC Davis has a very small-town charm. Its biology program is more highly ranked than UCSB. Also, it’s a place where you can go horseback riding on campus if you want to take lessons :slight_smile:

If you’re interested in location, I would go to UCSB. I’ve visited both campuses, and liked SB vs Davis. Davis is far from the beach and there’s not much to do there, although I guess you could party in Sac?..

As far as your major, I was told by other students that Davis has a better program for Bio.

@ocnative @WhiteTiger84

Woops, guess I was wrong about which school outranked the other in Bio. :P

I’m in the same boat! I TAG’d to UCD but i also got accepted to UCSB for fall. I have tons of friends who go to both schools and they all have good things to say about both. People assume that UCD doesn’t have much of a social scene but my friends can find parties to go to easily, and the school is beautiful with its arboretum. Its very college town and quaint and green!

SB is by the beach but their beach kind of sucks…students don’t really go there often. The overall feel is more laidback though, and it’s a big party school but people get their ■■■■ done too.
Visit both and see which environment you like better! I am torn 50/50 between the two right now.

UCD’s bio program is really good! I would go there

UCSB’s neuroscience program is pretty good. I’m tagging a different thread where I posted a bit about that. I think UCSB is the best social life in the UCs however, any particular person’s experience can vary depending on your preferences. I really like UCD as well. My sons are making the same choice and something tells me one will end up at one and one at the other, but part of that is because one of them wants more than either particular school, to go to a different school than his twin for the first time, ever. I think whatever choice they make will be a good one.
