I got into both UCSB and UCSD and can’t decide between the two. From what I hear UCSD seems to have better academics, but i got into Revelle, which I hear is terrible for the social, dorm, and food aspects. I got into the UCSB honors program, and I’m wondering if that’s a better opportunity. However, I don’t UCSB has a bad reputation for being a party school. My major is undeclared. Please post advice and the good and bad things about each school. Thanks.
Can you visit? My impression is they feel a bit different and you should see where you would be more comfortable studying. A lot of students in SB end up living in Isla Vista. Also, what are possible majors for you? I think in certain fields of humanities and social sciences UCSB is stronger.
Being Undeclared major, of course, UCSB honor program, if it gives you priority for registration.
I was also accepted to UCSB’s honors program as a Regents scholar and based off all of the many perks they listed in the welcome email, I’d definitely say UCSB over UCSD.
Many of my friends at UC’s (from Berkeley to LA to SB etc) who don’t have Regents/Honors/priority registration have complained about the difficulty of getting the classes they need and/or want and virtually no advising. ESPECIALLY if you’re Undeclared, you’ll want this priority registration because at SB (and other UC’s), priority is given to Regents/Honors, then declared, then undeclared.
UCSB is a huge school and definitely has students that don’t party all of the time. And if you care, SB actually now has a much higher ranking (#37) than SD (#44). Hope I kinda helped
@swimmergent Revelle is bad for the academic aspect, but the social, dorm, and food aspects are all fantastic. It’s changed a lot in the last five years or so, every residential building has been remodeled. If you get a chance to visit you should, I think it’s one of the two prettiest colleges at UCSD now
Priority registration for classes, that comes with honors, is a huge advantage. I’d say this tips the balance in favor of SB over SD.
