I’ve recently narrowed my college choices to these three schools and I need some help making a choice. I know the choice is up to me to choose the school that’s the best fit and whatever but honestly I want to at least get some input before I accidentally make a wrong choice because of something I never considered. I want to major in Computer Science (so far) and considering all three schools I want to make the best possible decision. I like the environment of all three schools and have basically the same net cost after financial aid to all three. I want to choose the university that will help me get a good job after graduation and I heard Cal Poly helps students do just that. My main question comes down to if Cal Poly is to good to pass up for UCSD/UCSB?
They all have good CS programs. If you want to work in California, you’ll be in good shape with a degree from any of them
If you want to leave California for your first or second job, Cal Poly might be a slight disadvantage just because it isn’t well known outside the state. After you’ve worked for two or three years, your school becomes relatively unimportant.
Yea I don’t really see myself leaving California. Ok this makes choosing a school more flexible for me now. Thanks for the response simba9!
All three can definitely help you get a job after graduation. While Cal Poly’s program prepares you in a less theoretical way, the UCs offer more potential research opportunities and internships in the area. A UCSD degree in CS is very well respected; the thing is, switching from Math:CS or any other major into the Computer Science and Engineering department is a difficult and competitive process. Good luck with your decision!
All will make you employable. I would likely choose USCD is you are going on purely academics, but the other two are great choices as well.
