I can't decide which of these to go.

For UCSD, I got accepted as Math and Econ. For UCSB, I got accepted as Econ and Accounting, and for CSF I got accepted as Econ.

My goal is to work in Finance and I know that firms look at GPA and prestige when deciding on who hire, so which of these would is the most prestigious?

My parents are leaning toward CSF as it is closer to home and cheaper. I, however, am leaning to UCSB as it's a double major and if Econ/finance doesn't work out, I can always fall back on Accounting.

I would go with either UCSD or UCSB. You could save some money by attending Fullerton.

What school did you decide to go to after all?

A little late but, i’d choose UCSD. Santa Barbara is really getting a rep as a party school which will undermine the value of their degrees for years to come.

If you can hack the math, focusing on the quantitative side of Econ is a great idea. Analytics and behaviorial Econ are huge growth areas.

As an aside, most folks switch those majors around. I have an MBA in Finance. It’s always been my impression that the rigor of Accounting weeds out a LOT of students who wind up Finance majors. Also, I understand Accountng now requires lots many more units, necesitating an extra year of study.

@NCalRent, you may need to brush up on your research a bit. The OP wants to work in finance but is considering the possibility of working in accounting if finance does not work out. For this, UCSB would be the best school. The big 4 accounting firms in LA recruit mostly at UCLA, USC, and UCSB. Trust me, I have done my research and have even called the firms myself.

On another note, UCSB and UCSD are very comparable in rank and prestige so choosing UCSD because of the misconception that it is far superior than UCSB is ridiculous. Both schools are great and are so comparable in terms of academics that you could leave it up to a coin toss.

gvanchhani, I hope you made your decision based on which school you felt more comfortable with after visiting each campus and not on the misconception that UCSD > UCSB–you have a good future ahead of you and I wish you the best of luck. Either way, you will get a fantastic education at either one of the schools you mentioned.
