UCSB vs. UCSD vs. UCSC for Film/Media major?

I just know I won't get into UCLA so I'm trying to decide between my safety schools. I know UCSB is supposedly not production based, but they have a new building and good equipment which is supposedly awesome. I know UCSD is "media" not film, and I'm really not sure of anything else about that major. I also have heard mixed reviews of UCSC as a whole, overall that it is not a very prestigious school and that the film program is very "experimental" and not very comparable to that of UCLA/USC or a "good" film program.

Anyone want to prove/debunk these myths? Has anyone been to any of these programs or is currently applying and can shed some light? Unfortunately I can't travel to visit any of the schools.

Can anyone who has made this choice between these schools for this major say what drew them to which school and if they made the right choice? Or prospective transfers who know more can you share your info with me?

bump…anyone? Anyone at all?

CSULB is better for film that any of these

Thanks I have applied there but their admit rates are VERY low for that program (almost UCLA equivalent) so I need some safety schools.

Really?!? That’s a shock to hear. Sorry I can’t offer any other advice

When it comes to film majors its not really what school you go to but how much effort you put into becoming successful. I’m a film major and since I’ve been at a CC I’ve volunteered at numerous award shows, film festivals, indie films, major films & some commercials. I’ve worked for successful people who didn’t even go to college. It’s not really what you know its who you know and who they know…you should pick a school closer to LA and while taking classes try to do work on the side and find internships and stuff.

good luck.

oh & the schools I applied to was UCSB, UCI & Northridge…Northridge is not the best of schools but they have a top of the line film program that has its on building and film students have their own dorms. They are located near alot of major studios and I hear they really help with finding internships.

Jack Johnson’s from UCSB

just sayin

You should check out Chapman University Dodge Film. The facility, speakers, teachers and mentors are amazing. Building huge new state of the art film studio there. Met some students who after being a film major at uc transferred there. I was completely impressed.

USC

hahaha

I’m low income and independent and can’t afford private schools. My 3.11 GPA is good but won’t get me any scholarships over a couple thousand, so everything else is Pell Grant (which basically buys a meal plan) and student loans. Credit sucks plus no co signer so I can’t take out enough loans to go to a private school. So Chapman, USC, Loyola are all out of my price range. I’ll be lucky enough if I can even afford to finish my undergrad without having to drop out and enter the full time work force.

Thanks for the advice, everyone though. Hoping to find some people with real world experience at any of these schools. I live near Northridge so I know they have a great program, but they are selective into their film production option (CTVA itself is open to everyone, but the film production option only selects 45 new students a semester according to the Pre-CTVA adviser, so depending on how many applicants, CSUN isn’t even a sure thing for me). So gotta have a solid safety school out of the UCs.

bump…anyone else want to chime in about the schools I mentioned instead of just suggesting schools I didn’t apply to? UCSB vs UCSC vs UCSD for Film/Media major? Thanks!
