UCSB vs UCSD

So I've been accepted to UCSB and UCSD and trying to weigh the pros and cons of the two.
Can anyone who's attended either list some positives and negatives of the school?
Thanks!

UCSB - I live in SB and would go to UCSB over UCSD. The girls are hotter and its academically less rigorous. I’d rather be a big fish in a small pond (academically).

^lol settle for less…thats totally the way you should take on life…

What do you like to do?

If you like to party a ton go to UCSB. I have friends who go there and they tell me that its hard to study at times because all of the partying is distracting. The campus is really nice and the beach is close. Also, IV is pretty crazy on weekends. That being said UCSB is still a good school.

If you like academics but still like to party then go to UCSD (I go to UCSD). UCSD is a nice blend of both. You can party hard when you want but focus on school work when you want. La Jolla is also in a much nicer area. The only downside is that if you dont have a car its kind of hard to walk to places like you can in IV. You do get free bus passes though. Also a lot of kids do have cars so just make friends with one of them.

What is your major, that might help you decide between the two. UCSD has a ton of opportunities for research, internships (because its located in a big city) and opportunities to get close to professors. Its a pretty great experience.

Right now I have computer engineering listed so UCSD would be the clear choice because it has the better engineering school, or so I’ve been told. But I’m somewhat positive I am going to switch out of that major. I am still fairly unsure of what I want to do… it could be anywhere from something with journalism or business.

How is parking at UCSD? Per year is it expensive?

Meteman- I’m a girl so having girls that are hotter really isn’t a big plus for me…

I also got into both and I have visited both, have friends that go to both colleges. First of all ucsb is a gorgeous campus, ucsd is also quite gorgeous but not as beautiful. My frien who goes to ucsd says the social scene is very lame and that most people drive to sdsu to have fun! How lame is that. You have to go to another collge to have fun? Of course everyone knows ucsb is one of the biggest party schools around. But ucsd is slightly more academic.

You could be a lesbian though.

<---- Suddenly interested in the thread

Fame123- I won’t be taking my car to either school no matter what so having to travel to another school is kind of lame. But the whole point of going to school is to be there for academics but it’s like if there’s no social life then where’s the fun?

$KingElite$- Well I’m not.

Which school do you believe have better sports?

Fame123 - that is not true. UCSD has plenty of parties at home. I have never once had to go to SDSU to find a party because they wasn’t one going on at UCSD. If you are social you will make friends and get to party. If you aren’t or choose not to party you can avoid them all together.

The parties at UCSB are house parties in IV that almost anyone can walk into as long as they are holding a 30 rack. Don’t know about you but I dont really enjoy those kind of parties.

Arctic- What are you majoring in at UCSD? Is San Diego a stressful city like LA?

How’s transportation? Buses fairly safe?

^I wouldn’t call San Diego stressful. UCSD is about a 15-20 minute drive to downtown San Deigo so you’re not right downtown or anything, but there are plenty of beaches really close to the university. Public transportation gets you where you need to go, but not too quickly sometimes. Needless to say, I’ve never felt unsafe on the bus.

@KristenRandi
Well… If you’re hot, then go to ucsb! haha
@Twistnswif
Uhh, well you’re still getting roughly the same education, your GPA will just be alot higher because they grade on a curve.
You’re still the same-sized fish, you just seem bigger since you’re in a smaller pond.

Kristen - I’m majoring in Cognitive Science /w Human Computer Interaction.

I think SD is not stressful at all compared to LA. The air is cleaner, the traffic around UCSD is very limited and the beach is awesome. You get a free bus pass sticker on your student ID so you can take the bus anywhere you need to go (mall, grocery stores, movies, etc). Also when you move off campus they have a ton of buses (both UCSD and city) servicing the surrounding area to transport students to and from campus. It is extremely convenient. As said before the buses are pretty safe, I’ve never heard of or seen any fights/crazies on buses here.

Arctic- Okay, good. That actually makes me a lot more at ease. I’m a bit of a little chicken. What do you know about Warren College?

I’m in Warren College. The dorms are nice but kind of far from certain classes especially if you are a Biology major, they usually have their classes in Revelle. The GE’s are probably some of the best also next to muir, in terms of flexibility and writing sequence. The food @ their dining hall isn’t bad either.

Check the UCSD forum for more info:

@KristenRandi

Well, the GEs are great (in my opinion), the food is alright, the housing is pretty nice, the location isn’t perfect but it’s close to the pool and some classes. I’ll be an RA for Warren next year. Is there anything specific you would like to know?

UCSD has a lot of ugly and boring people

all- how close is it to the beach? what are some positive and negative aspects of the school?

blkbox- perfect then. ill fit in great
