UCSB vs UMiami

What are the pros/cons for each school?

1 - MONEY: For a low-income, 20k/year californian, which school would be more affordable? Miami might offer better aid, but UCSB is cheaper. (Do they just even-out?)

2 - FUN: What are the differences in campus culture etc. Which school is more fun? Any differing stereotypes between these two (usually considered) "beach/party" schools?

3- ACADEMICS: Which would you recommend I pick if it came down to these two? I'm interested in film/business/economics. I understand UMiami has a business program but UCSB might have better econ etc.

UCSB is better all the way around.

I’d probably go with Miami, but it would be close. Cali is very nice, but I’m personally more of a Florida guy.

How much money do you think UCSB will give you and the State of CA? Aren’t they decimating the financial aid in an attempt to balance the ginormous CA budget. UM may give you better aid, but I don’t know if they meet 100% of need or not.

Good luck.

UM does not meet 100% of need, and neither do the UCs. Even so, instate will be a lot cheaper, unless you can win one of Miami’s big scholarships (requires great test scores).
