Admitted to UCSB off waitlist, posted similar thread like this except had been admitted to UC Davis. I had never intended going to Davis, because their Managerial Econ isn't too strong apparently, but I have always been 5x more interested into UCSB/they also have a stronger program.

My goals are to work within the hospitality business, specifically with hotels. I am almost sure I want to go for an MBA, but not sure how soon that would happen.

Just know, I am out of state for both schools, have Friday to pay SIR (could visit after), am not looking forward to taking Calculus at UCSB, did the AP stats route instead of Pre-calc and AP Calc in high school.

UofA Pros
Business Undergrad School, could get a job with a business management degree at a hotel right away most likely.
Cheaper...
Bigger on sports.
More known outside of California ( I live in Washington, with intent of living in California or Washington after).
More college experience?

UCSB Pros
Higher Rankings.
Campus.
Better for getting into MBA programs? With most of the adults I have talked too about this, they have said a degree from UCSB is alot better looking on job resumes/MBA resumes.
Quarter System. I am in dual-enrollment, and I enjoy this system a lot.

I am not too aware of the UCSB economics program and how far it could take me into getting a job within actual businesses.

If any information to help please post! Thank you.

More known outside of california? the term University of California is actually internationally known. Also, ucsb is huge on soccer, i think their team had only like 2 losses last season.

Just go with ucsb, easy choice imo.

I agree, ucsb is ranked way higher than u of a. It would definitely look better that you went to ucsb than u of a when applying for mba. How much cheaper is u of a for you than ucsb? Because that could be a big deciding factor. If its only like 2 or 3k less, then I’d say ucsb.

lol@more college experience for uofa.

imo UCSB is better and it’s not close… if you can afford it I would go to UCSB.

U of A? Arizona? Arkansas? or Alabama?

I am going to guess Arizona. Yea they are known for their sports programs, I don’t think you can compare U of A to UCSB for academics though.

UCSB’s soccer fans are probably the craziest in the country. In regards to calculus, if you had AP Calc in high school I think you can handle Calculus in college.

FYI, summers in Arizona are horrible…you might want to think about that.

UCSB is a much better school overall, but the Ehler School of Business school at U of A is great. Overall, U of A it is not as academically respected.

If you want to go into hospitality, get an undergard degree from UCSB and an MBA from Cornell. They have a top hotel management program. A friend of mine also went to Switzerland for hotel management. That would be an option after you graduate or for a semester of study abroad.

If you REALLY want to go to a business school, then go to U of A. I was set to go to the Cal Poly Business School which is awesome, but I was accepted to UCSB from the WL and I am going to go there and study economics and then get an MBA.

Besides, have you seen the campus? It is right on the ocean. U of A will be HOT!

i read in the daily nexus today that UoA beat UCSB at baseball or softball
