My daughter was waitlisted UCSB (3.9 UW and 4.0W). She has a unique situation. She is graduating a full year early so in essence took all her traditional junior classes her first semester and all her traditional senior classes this semester so is completing two full years in one year (small private school similar to a homeschool format). She has made an A on every class. However, her school did not offer AP classes. That is partly why she did this to challenge herself. Are the grades alone enough to appeal? Her situation of graduating early was referred to in her original application. Also, can letters of reference be submitted as part of her appeal? Thank you so much.
Yes, LOR’s can be submitted. Grades alone may not be sufficient since all schools expect students to continue to do well their Senior year. Graduating early can be problematic since UCSB does emphasize volunteering/community service so early grads have less time to develop their EC’s. Definitely appeal if she feels strongly, just get her excited about the other schools that have accepted her.

Thank you so much! She has tons of community service so hopefully it will make a difference. Yes, she will pursue another school acceptance but her love of research and UCSB putting such an emphasis on research made it seem like the perfect fit. She will definitely pursue the appeal. Thank you so much for your response and for all you do on CC.
Good luck!
FYI:
**Appeal stats for 2019:
Appeals submitted: 718
Admits: 47
Thank you so much!
Whenever I submit my appeal on the portal it takes me to a page that says “You have encountered an application error. Staff have been notified and will try and resolve this issue as quickly as possible.” Is anyone getting this error too? What do I do? I emailed the admissions director and team and nobody is replying.
@yyu2002 This may be a sign from above that UCSB may not Be the right path for you. Best to SIR somewhere else and work hard!
@yyu2002 Another great option would be to go to Community College, work extremely hard there, and then transfer to UCSB afterwards. Unless working extremely hard is not your cup of tea?
Yea maybe. I just did my SIR at Purdue for CS today. But I’m hoping to get off the waitlist one of the top UCs
@yyu2002 Do not listen to HonestTeaMom, I have never seen someone so determined to keep students from appealing. If you were rejected or waitlisted and you think you deserve to attend you have every right to appeal. It’s sad to see someone so discouraging of others. Write that appeal from heart. You got this homie.
Everyone who is UC-qualified should write an appeal to any UC school they were denied admission from. The process is in place for this reason. Don’t listen to negative parents.
thanks! I saw other people calling @HonestTeaMom out for being a downer and discouraging people everywhere to accept the waitlist offer or appeal. It’s kind of sad to see people like that discouraging others.
Yea i know and someone needs to stop HonestTeaMom who just goes around putting others down.
Does anyone know when UCSB typically releases appeal decisions?
I took myself off the UCSB SIR today bc i got into another UC… so now theres more room for some of y’all and a lot more ppl have done the same… within y’all the best
@aztecashes Hi thank you for your work, i just got in. I love you
