Any idea of the chances of coming off the waitlist for engineering? I read last year’s waitlist thread and it sounded like they don’t take too many.
2015-2016 Waitlist stats (not specific for Engineering):
waitlist: 5,006
opting in: 2,910
admitted: 278
2016-17 waitlist stats from UC counselor conference
5373 waitlist
3120 opt in
1218 waitlist admits
@hmbjlc where did you find that info?

A mom I know just posted an hour ago that both her girls were accepted. According to my daughter who is friends with the girls, they were waitlisted just like my daughter. My D hasn’t had a change of status. It seems early for the school to be taking people off the waitlist.
Update… It sounds like maybe the two girls checked the portal on the 21st and saw no change in status and assumed they were waitlisted. They didn’t check again but their mom looked recently and that’s when it showed they were accepted. Long story short it isn’t their first pick and they already sent in their SIRs to the colleges they plan to attend. So it is not likely anyone has been taken in off the waitlist yet.
can anyone tell me that where can I appeal?
I sent an email to admission of ucsb but I don’t it was work
I’m guessing that I formation is last year? There’s no way they can have the waitlist admit stats for fall 2016
are they give admits only students who got high grades from waitlist lists?
Going by last year’s thread, the first wave of waitlist acceptances came the day after the SIR deadline for regular admits (last year May 2 was the SIR deadline and the first waitlist results came on May 3).
So if that holds up this year also then we should expect some results on next Tuesday.
It makes sense. They will have an exact number of open slots on May 2 (not sure if they accept SIR by snail-mail, for which they will have to allow a few extra days after May 1).
Then the complicated dance begins:
*) They offer positions to applicants on waitlist with a deadline to SIR.
*) Some take the offer by that deadline and UCSB reduces the waitlist count.
*) Some withdraw their earlier SIR because they got accepted elsewhere and UCSB increases the waitlist count.
*) Some don’t take the offer by SIR deadline and UCSB increases the waitlist count.
I think the decisions after May 2 will come in waves if they are updating their list every day. With each passing day though the number of seats reduce and so do the chances of getting in.
Good luck everyone. BTW, can everyone indicate whether they had appealed the decision? It will give us an idea of whether appeal makes a difference (after the results come out)
For the record, I did send in an appeal.
I sent in an appeal as well, I have it as pending on my portal. Good luck to everyone.
Does anyone know if your appeal doesn’t get granted then are you still on the waitlist? I appealed too but I’m scared it will not be granted and I will be taken off the waitlist in general and have no hope of getting in
@dancingsloth If your appeal is denied, you stay on the waitlist. I called to verify this with the administration.
@limbo2017 thank you for clearing that up!
Has anyone heard back on appeals or got off the waitlist? Let me know!
Nothing yet!
Nothing here either. I think (hope) that they are triple-checking the list before sending out the notifications. I don’t want to be that kid who got mistakenly accepted and then rejected.
