@dood523 i appealed from the waitlist, on my portal it says “appeal received - decision pending”. i’ve heard that we’re supposed to hear back about appeals after may 1st but i’ve also heard that we could hear back before, anyone know?
@dood523 also i know 6 others from my school appealed
i have heard both as well. depends who answers the phone. very frustrating.
@WistonZayne Yes
@marinstudent are all of them on the waitlist as well? Did anyone appeal that wasn’t waitlisted?
@dood523 3 or 4 of us are on the waitlist and the others aren’t
@marinstudent where is your school located? I’m the only person at my school appealing to UCSB but I’m located in the Bay Area
i appealed and i was denied - not waitlisted
@ucsbcandi did you find out about this today
@WinstonZayne i’m also located in the bay area. i’ve heard there are a lot of appeals overall this year to ucsb and that it doesn’t matter how many are appealing from your own school. are you appealing from the waitlist?
@ucsbcandi what did you write about in your appeal? sorry if you already posted this somewhere
@marinstudent Where did you hear that there are a lot of appeals?
@cwburke on another discussion, someone mentioned that they’d heard that from the admissions office. also this year they accepted more out of state students and only 1/3 california students (traditionally they take many more CA students), so it makes sense that a lot of qualified california residents would appeal after being denied/waitlisted.
I am still showing Decision Pending - I was denied but I appealed. I wrote my appeal about other community things that I did that I had not originally written in my essay.
@marinstudent I’m sorry but where are you getting all this info??? There’s a law passed by Jerry Brown requiring that 80% of students accepted into UCs must be CA residents so that statement about 1/3 of students only being CA residents is false Also, when I called checking in on my appeal on the 10th of April inquiring about my appeal they said there was a light load of appeals, albeit It was 5 days before the due date I have a hard time believing they have a large volume of appeals that’s more than the norm.
Hi, I mailed in a LOCI about a month ago. Is it expected that I haven’t received any sort of reply/notification that they received it or read it? I’m thinking no, but just wanted to make sure! Thanks!
When does the waitlist open? After May 1, or is it rolling, as spaces become available?
@momo2x2018 it opens after May 1st. In the past the first wave of responses has come out soon after. 2016 it was May 2 and 2017 it was May 4 based on previous threads
@WinstonZayne : It’s a sham of a law. Read the fine print.
“Beginning in fall 2018, university campuses will be capped at 18 percent nonresident student enrollment, unless their 2017-18 undergraduate student body already has a rate exceeding that level. At those campuses, which would include UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Irvine, nonresident enrollment would be capped at no more than the levels of nonresident enrollment in the 2017-18 year.”
UCB/UCLA/UCSD/UCI - all are allowed to keep their current levels. UCLA is at 24.4%, UCI is at 18.4%.
Worse, the law allows the other schools, which are now way under 18%, to go up to 18%. It’s not rocket science to guess what might have happened at these other UCs. They “would” have allowed more out-of-state this year, given anecdotal evidence on CC.
Net-net. The new law allowed the old nonsense (preference to OOS) to continue at the top UCs and allowed other UCs to increase their OOS admittance to go up as well.
No wonder everyone in CA is feeling the pinch “across the board” this year.
@dood523 Thank you!
