UCSB has 14,000 people in their waiting list.
See story here:
To put that in perspective: UCSB has a freshman class of about 4,935 new Gauchos. So there are almost 3x as many people in the waiting list as they have total spots for freshmen!
Itās not necessary that all 14000 people accepted their waitlist offer. They sent out offers to 14000 but Iām sure a lot of people also declined their waitlist offers.
On top of that, lot of folks are waitlisted in multiple colleges, as folks applied to more colleges this year than usual. I do not see any movement in any UCs (I am checking UCI, UCLA, UCD, UCSC waitlist forums). I am mainly interested in L&S CS for my in-state son. Is it possible all the UCs will coordinate and send the wave(s) on the same day, which will make it a one time decision deal for the UCs - thus making it easy both for them and us ?
Hope youāre right about that. CS is especially competitive. Does your son have a good backup plan?
UC does not coordinate waitlists or acceptance between campuses. At least thatās what they will tell you if you ask. Each campus operates independently in terms of admissions.
Yes, thanks, it is OOS.
agreed. If the proportion of people accepting the WL is the same as last year, that would mean about 9000 people are actually on the waitlist, still larger but not the 14000 number
Thatās a great collegeā¦ wish I had applied there. Rated the same as UCSD by USNews.
UC Davis has been very responsive by email regarding all kinds of questions. I was surprised though to get all the emails about placement tests. Will your daughter be taking them soon? I canāt meet the window deadline to take them this week (not much notice) - so I guess it will be later in the summer.
Oh man, I havenāt even heard of the placement tests for Davis. Was it an email or in your portal? My email to them was about housing. We filled out the info on portal the day it was due. But because it takes about 1/2 day to process payment, we couldnāt finish it until the next day. So now she is on the wait list for housing.
My regular email and new UC Davis email as well. Hereās the wording regarding mathā¦"Welcome to UC Davis! One of your first steps before enrolling in classes is determining your correct placement for your new college courses. Enrolling in the appropriate level course is critical to your success as a first-year student. New students enrolling in Fall Quarter 2021 will take Math Placement online prior to participating in Aggie Advising. In the coming weeks, the campus will invite students via your UC Davis email account (or email address on file) to complete the Math Placement online. Students will take the math placement as follows:
College of Letters & Science: May 3 - May 10
College of Biological Sciences: May 10 - May 17
College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences: May 17 - May 24
College of Engineering: May 24 - May 31
Iām in College of Letters & Science. Maybe if you are in another group they just have notified you yet? Also, if you already took an AP exam with a passable score, that might waive you. I donāt mine calculus exam until June. Havenāt taken chemistry since last year, so definitely want to study a little before taking that exam.
BTW, Iām sure the housing will work out. Consider all the waitlisted applicants who will be let in later - Iām sure they wonāt be denied housing.
Thank you so much. Sheās in Biological sciences. I guess I shouldnāt hijack this UCSB forum anymore. ( :
FYI, UCSC is letting some kids off the waitlist now. Hope UCSB does so soon as well. Good luck everyone.
Son is still on waiting list and really hoping to get off. I read early on in this thread and/or on the the ucsb website that you couldnāt appeal to get off the waitlist, and that LOCI letters were not being asked for or acceptedā¦did this remain true? Or, did they accept appeals to get off the waitlist and LOCI letters? Thanks!
My daughter received an offer on May 2nd for Pre-Economics. She just released her spot. Hoping it goes to someone on this thread. CC has been incredibly helpful and appreciate all the support and guidance.
You are correct, you cannot appeal while on the waitlist and this year they did not offer the option for an LOCI.
That would be great! Thank you for responding and good luck to your daughter!
