UCSB Waitlist Discussion Class of 2024

i checked my portal around 8:10 AM and got off the waitlist for the college of letters & sciences! i received an official email an hour later letting me know that a decision was posted. the deadline to sir is 05/09/2020

i submitted an appeal, 2 letters of rec, and high school + dual enrollment transcripts on april 14th, which was a day before the deadline (i dont know if this contributed to my decision though)

my stats:
30 ACT, SAT II 650/710, 3.8 UW/4.3 W/4.13 UC Capped, in-state so-cal, anthro major

i just SIRed and iā€™m proud to say that iā€™m officially committed to ucsb! good luck to everyone else who is still waiting, thereā€™s lots of waves coming out from all the uc campuses!

Also just got admitted for pre-biology! I appealed and sent in one LOR/senior transcript! Good luck to everyone else!

Accepted this morning! I received an email from UCSB at around 9 am.
Pre-Economics and Accounting major and In-state norcal applicant.
My stats are average, with my SAT very below UCSBā€™s average SAT scores:
3.8 UW/4.1 UC GPA, 1220 SAT
A good amount of diverse ECā€™s but not a lot for my major
Good luck to everyone!

please donā€™t claim waitlist spots for schools you donā€™t want to attend. itā€™s inconsiderate to people who actually want to go to those universities.

It seems as if they are only admitting in state kids this wave

My daughter (in state) was just accepted off the waitlist to the pre-communications dept. She is now deciding between SLO (graphic communications) - which she already accepted ā€“ and now, UCSB in the communications dept. She has 5 days to decide. No idea what she will decide.

Anyone else deciding between SLO and UCSB?

What a rollercoaster ride. UCSB was always her dream school ā€“ though SLO seems to have a stronger program/major.

just got off the waitlist for pre-biology!!! :)) i was gonna go to uci but iā€™d rather go to sb, so any ppl waiting on uci will have an extra open spot

In-state, got off the waitlist this morning! 4.08 UC weighted GPA, 3.93 UC Capped Weighted GPA, 3.64 UC Unweighted GPA, 1420 SAT, 750 Math II Subject Test, 680 Chemistry Subject Test.
Major: Earth Science in L&S
President of two clubs, Vice-President of one club, ASB Secretary, Raised $15K for blood cancer patients.
Also accepted at: UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, USC
Waitlisted: UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara (until now)
Rejected: UCLA
Not going to UCSB, though.

My son got of the waitlist this morning for pre-communications - has until 5/11 to SIR. In state, 3.8 UW, 4.3ish weighted (canā€™t remember exactly), 1390 SAT, lots of ECs, leadership, and sports (but nothing state-level). Authentic, readable essays. His senior year classes were not super strong/rigorous, though.

He didnā€™t appeal or submit anything additional.

does anyone think there will be an OOS wave sometime soon?

Accepted in-state today for Economics. 4.04 UC GPA. 1450 SAT. A few good ECs and very good essays. Appealed and sent senior grades. So excited to be a Gaucho!

I just got into UCSB for environmental studies! 3.9 unweighted (multiple AP and honors, I forget what the weighted is) 1390 SAT Iā€™m also deciding between Cal Poly SLO and UCSB.

Got accepted this morning!! In-state, pre-political science, 3.75 UW, 4.04 W, 1370 SAT, 4 years of mock trial competitions (at county and international level, team placed top 10 at most), in some minor clubs like NHS and CSF, some volunteering at local church and middle school, no internship/work experience. Also wrote an appeal; others havenā€™t heard anything for theirs, so I assume my acceptance is purely off the waitlist. Very exciting!!! Already SIRā€™ed to SDSU (over UCI, UCSC, and UCR), but will most likely be committing to UCSB!! GO GAUCHOS!!!

did you get in from the waitlist or through the appeal?

I got in as in-state through the waitlist. I wrote an email saying that if I got in I would attend but didnā€™t appeal.

rise up future gauchos!

I didnā€™t appeal or do any of that. I still got off the waitlist with a 3.64 UW and 4.08 W.

D got off waitlist on 5/5 in the AM. She also was one that had received the weird unofficial financial aid award letter BEFORE she officially got off! So people were wondering if those letters meant anything and whether it indicated likely acceptance, and it may?

i got off the waitlist two days ago and i was elated. ( In State)
ACT 31 (32 superscore)
GPA 4.03 UC W/ 3.8 UW
At least 10+ Extracurriculars
Great Essays

UCSB was my top choice, but my parents are making me go to UMich because itā€™s more prestigious (even though tuition is 4X moreā€¦) Hope this opens up a spot for one of you  Go gauchos

Yeah they did that to me as well. Maybe it was a sign of acceptance!
