UCSB- What are my chances?

Just wondering what my chances at Santa Barbara.
My unweighted/weighted GPA is 3.827. I am considering taking an AP class next (Junior) year (US History). I took 2 Honors classes this year and am planning on taking one next year. By senior year, I will have four Varsity letters for two different sports and 80 hours of service. My PSAT score is 1610 and expect to score 1810 on the SAT (Company promises 200 pt increase). I am hoping to go into engineering. I have been taking honors in the sciences and am doing well in math. It is also worth mentioning that I am out of state, unfortunatly.

My question is what are my chances, and how important is it for me to take more honors or AP classes.

Thanks for your time, and go Gauchos.

  1. UC’s look for course rigor so 2 Honors and 2 AP classes in 4 years of HS is not very competitive, unless your HS offers only a few AP’s. My two son’s HS offers 13 AP classes and the top students took anywhere from 7-13 AP’s by end of Senior year.

  2. Your unweighted GPA is good, but you need to calculate your UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
and not all Honor classes are UC approved so you need to check the doorways link on the calculator to see if they qualify for the extra Honors points.

  3. SAT is on the low side for UCSB, so consider retaking and aiming for at least a 1900+. EC’s and essays are very important in UCSB admissions, so really work on the UC’s essays this summer. Good Luck.
