I want to transfer to UCSB in the winter quarter of 2013 because I will have all of my units completed by then. If I tried to apply this fall I only have 23 units complete so I was told I should try to transfer in the winter quarter, so if I got in I would go there when winter quarter begins, January 2013. However I have heard that many UCs are not accepting mid-year transfers. What should I do?

I’m planning on applying to the winter quarter of 2012. I was accepted to the fall quarter of 2011, but due to unforeseen circumstances will not be able to attend. I have also heard that UCSB has closed their winter admissions. However, on UCSB’s Admissions page it says this:

To apply for admission after a filing period has ended, or for a UCSB term that will be closed to new applicants, you must submit a written appeal. Consideration for appeals is based on your overall application and extenuating circumstances.

In your letter of appeal, please include:

A statement describing your special circumstances.
The quarter and year for which you are applying.
Whether you are applying as a freshman or transfer student.
Intended major.
Full legal name (no nicknames).
Address and phone number.
E-mail address.
Date of birth.
The last four digits of your social security number (if applicable).
Copies of all transcripts.

So, even though it’s not guaranteed, I’m going to try to do this. Hope this helps.
