ucsb with a 2.8 gpa?

lol it feels good

honestly i dunno…it says i have 3-4 posts a day, so since i study next to my laptop I meander on over to cc, fb, youtube for ~10-15 min/2hrs of studying…

when midterms are done…probably won’t be on as much.

I wonder what my first post was? Is there a way to figure that out? Oh CC the memories we have shared…

your first post…you were so young tears of pride

your first thread (too bad no one answered :D)…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/700888-quick-question-about-fa.html</a></p>

^ HAHAHHA! Of course no one replied typical CC thread! Good thing I got into LA, Revelle was not for me (what do I need THREE quarters of Calculus for as a Political Science major!!!)

Anonymous, you have 406 posts! I hope someday I can be as awesome as you. Maybe if I go on collegeconfidential for 5 hours/day for the next month, I can get to the prestigious status that you obviously think you have.

you’re to a good start then

you already have 2 posts on your first day…only 203 more days to go

no need to spend 5/6 hours per day, only losers without a life would do that.

good luck buddy! :)

^ Giving Anonymousername the most generous assumption, he has had 138 days since joining CC in July to amass a total of 408 posts. That checks out to nearly 2.9 posts a day. If you were to respond once more today you would be setting a similar pace. Congrats to you both.

this is incorrect and a distortion of my words, the average student has a 2.8 but most of them go to CSUs

^ Oh yeah I never got around to pointing that out…according to the University of California’s site: “In 2008, the average GPA of transfer students admitted to the University was 3.3. However, the average GPA varies widely by campus and by major.” For example your average GPA is going to be much higher at UCB and UCLA than say UCSC or UCR (not to diss those schools they are great as well but there is a big prestige gap between such UC’s)

[University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_adm_r/tr_adm_r_gpa.html)

". High school students who can manage a 3.9 in high school can obviously perform better than a 2.8 in community college, the UC admissions process doesn’t seem to care about the discrepancy in the standard of students they accept "
bahahaha, you act like high school is hard, are you SERIOUS!? I graduated high school with an international baccalaureate diploma, something that is supposed to be hard, and the only hard thing about it was spelling international baccalaureate hahaha. Some of my peers that were unable to get the IB diploma still got into UCB, UCLA, and all those other schools, whilst I, who got the diploma, went to community college…albeit I did graduate with like a 2.8 or something…weighted lol (consider that I took two years in high school of purely weighted classes) … and I didn’t bother applying to UC’s cause I couldn’t afford it ha  .GPA reflects nothing in high school other than your willingness to conform to excess work (homework, stupid projects, oral presentations, etc), not the amount of material you have learned.
Also, the amount of work done in high school v. a community college is vastly different. One semester of any college course is equal to one year of an AP course in high school…the work is obviously being covered much faster in a college course. Oh, and do you really think that one year of a high school biology class is just as hard as one semester of an organic chemistry class at a community college…NO. Also, people in a community college usually work, come from a lower class, and had/have a problem/issue that prevented them from performing well in high school.

did you really have to dig this thead up from the grave ?

to the op:

Why is UCSB your #1 choice?

lol well at first it was merely from just touring the campus and really seeing myself there. but as i looked into the program they have for my major it just sort of clicked. i recently got accepted into sdsu and ucsc, which was awesome cuz i was so afraid of not getting in anywhere. today in fact i went to tour sdsu and its a great campus and all but i felt like it was mostly geared towards social life and less towards academics. now im like 100% sure i need to go to this school its just something i feel in my gut that needs to happen. idk if i sound crazy or not but i cant really explain it lol

I think your explanation is perfectly understandable.

Just don’t be like many others (especially girls) who choose UCSB only for its materialistic social scene and its “good looking people.” Not to be blunt, but if you are one of those people with that kind of mindset, your college experience will be somewhat unfulfilling, stressful, and it may likely affect your academic performance and drive.

I’m just friendly cautioning you :), I doubt you are one of them based on how you discerned that SDSU was “mostly geared towards social life.”

Best wishes to you.

Hey Ptiya117,

How is your gpa looking now? How did you do last fall? When you updated, were you above a 3.0?

and congras on UCSC and SDSU.

Oliver_Twist: haha yeah i dont think i’m one of those types lol. the whole thing with sdsu that worries me is that im afraid it might effect me when applying to grad school. i feel like if i were to graduate from sdsu i wouldnt have as good as a chance to get into a good program as opposed to if i were to go to ucsb or any uc at that.

knightmight: right now im at like 2.84. i applied with a 2.7 and over winter i took 3 classes where i got an A,B, and C, but the C isnt a transferable course soo yea. i admit i effed up and should have a better gpa but ive never had an easy semester ive always taken 5 classes at a time but again thats no excuse so idk we will see :)

Have you talked to a counselor or someone who works for UC admissions about your chances?

I hope you get in tomorrow.

Good luck Priya

lol well the ones at my school basically told me i wouldnt get in anywhere and that i should just wait till next year which is funny now cuz i’ve already been accepted to ucsc and sdsu so yea but thank you :)
