Really, I can honestly say that I have made friends here that I hopefully will keep for life.

Like all places, UCSB is what you make of it. If you are interested in partying, then there is a scene for that. If you want to just chill with best friends, you can do that. If you want to pursue research, then by all means. Not partying will not alienate you.

Partying at UCSB is only known because when you concenatrate that many college students in 1.5 sq. miles (Isla Vista), then the bit of partying that occurs seems more.

Aw baller, you're my man. I'm looking for the same thing, a couple really good friends that I can keep for life. The type where it's a regular habit to just meet at one of our's place after school and just chill together, watch some games, or whatever.

I just have a bunch of casual friends, as well, not the tight group that I want.

So maybe if we both end up at SB we can kick it together...

All this talk about "Hot girls" at UCSB is making me nervous! I'm a girl who wants to go there and I mean... talk about the pressure of walking around in a bakini all day.. i'm surprised there aren't more eating disorders/cocaine usage there. Jeez.

I still haven't made my decision based on the stuff addressed in this topic too. Even after visiting this weekend, I can't choose between extra debt by going to NYU freshman year or loss of an urban lifestyle by starting out at SB. After visiting this topic, though, I think I'm leaning toward a relaxing first four years, then transfering back to living in a metropolis for grad school. ahh

honestly i have more than half a dozen friends that go there and i could have told you which ones would be fine and which ones would struggle and so far two years in ive got 100%... i think its all about self-control the ones who get in trouble are the ones that party nightly not just on weekends...that being said i think freshman may struggle but transfer students are far less likely to flunk/party their way out of SB

UCD has managerial economics which is business. UCD actually ranks a lot higher than UCSB for business related majors...Also if you want an environment like UCSB but without the "partying or STD's" you should definately consider Cal Poly SLO...its an amazing campus...very well respected...and its cheaper than a UC...oh and Cal Poly's business is very good too, and if u ever decide to switch over to engineering Cal Poly is a top tier school in that field.
