UCSC acceptance revoked

I just found out tonight that my acceptance had been revoked. I do not know what to do and where to go from here since I've turned down my other offers.

I took 3 years of Spanish because it was "recommended" despite the fact that I struggled through the first two years. I was stupid. I got a B on my first semester Senior year and then a D the final semester. I thought since they only required 2 years of languages that I had the chance of not being dropped.

Anyway, does anyone out there have any comforting advice?

You'll save money now.

You can go to a local Junior College and then transfer up into a UC later on. Not only does this save a lot cash, but you also get the chance to transfer into another school, of your choice. The first two years don't really matter anyway, you can get your GE credits anywhere and still have a pretty decent base.

And if you have a psychological block against going to a JC, don't. I know plenty of kids who are going to a JC to save money, it's actually financially a smart thing to do. And not to discredit the JCs, but they are a touch easier so you might find it easier to get that 4.0 you're looking for, right? :)

I believe there may be an appeals process that you could try...but I'm not 100% sure about that. Anyone else know?

My son (freshman coming to UCSC in September) was flirting with a couple of "D"s last semester and I nagged him constantly about it. He brought up the grades to "C"s and "B"s at the last minute and finished with a 3.0 gpa for his final semester.

This will serve as a wake-up call to anyone else who reads this thread - don't let 'senioritis' ruin your college plans.

Yes, Aferi is correct about JC's, saving money, transferring later, etc., but I'm sure that is little consolation to Genster right now.

Good luck, Genster. And I might add that it's where you end up that counts the most, not where you started.

:/lectureover:

Genster,
This happened on the 19th? How did you find out?
Was this after they reviewed your final transcript or what?

Good luck!

talk to the college admissions...
it maybe to late...but still...try

Here's my advice:
1) like the others above me said, talk with your college admissions officers and explain the problem
2) scrap ucsc, and head to a community college, earn straight A's, and transfer to an even BETTER college, like UCB or UCLA.

Good Luck

no more bringin down UCSC...

Did you get a letter saying you were revoked straight up or did they ask for you to write a letter of explanation first?

i have the same problem but with calc BC. can you still explain the D even after your admission is revoked?

If you try you might, if you don't you won't.

Try the appeals process. If that doesn't work, do the CC or JC thing. I did it, and it was social hell but I got good grades. My particular Community College was high school with cigarettes, but I went there when I was 16 'cause that seemed like more fun than going to high school (I was homeschooled).

It's a lot easier to get really good grades there, and (this is important) if you get IGETC certification, it means your GE is done no matter what state school you go to (even some schools out of state like Arizona State, for instance), AND they don't look at your high school transcript or SATs. All that matters is your essay and your grades.

Good luck.
