UCSC admissions

So a few months ago I got a letter from UCSC telling me I need to log onto their system, as an applicant. Since then, I've lost that letter and do not remember what it said. Did anyone else get this letter and could you tell me what it says so that I can find out "if" I got in.

commie- if you're talking about the myucsc.edu thing... it tells you your application# and password....different from the one the uc gave you. If you lost the letter i dont know how to get it back?!!!

Yeah, for some reason I thought it was something like that. I sent them an email, as per their instructions, saying I forgot my password but I never heard back from them. I'm about 99% certain I got in, I just thought I could use the encouragement of an acceptance.

I guess I'll just wait for the regular mail acceptance.

hey communist smurf,

I am a fellow ucsc transfer applicant. Believe me, there is nothing of any interest on that site... at all! My friend applied last year and it didnt even update until two days after he got his letter. Its really just a way for santa cruz to keep people occupied with a dumb website and deter thousands of insanley eager kids from calling their offices everyday, which happens already. Im clicking for my application status right now and it just gives me my name. Anyways, its March 1st and i have not recieved my letter yet and I am wondering if anyone else applying to ucsc has. im pretty sure I am getting in because I was offered guaranteed admission through the GATE program. But I have had the worst luck in my life, so if anyone knows about the notification procedures, let me know. Thanks.

the website sucks.... nothing on it.

i'd much rather go to UCSB than SC.

Better location.

ima pretty hardcore liberal...UCSC would be best for me..heh

they are both beautiful campuses. I have been to both and it depends on the kind of scenery you prefer. Santa cruz is rated as the #1 most beautiful campus in the us. But sb isnt bad either. As far as the community, sb is more party/surf towny and santa cruz is a little more hippie/liberal though there are a ton of stoner surf rats too. Santa cruz is the laid back berkeley.

i've always thought SB is way more competetive from HS. SC has a 80% acceptance rate from HS, while SB has under 50%

u can find those stats on collegeboard.com

SC is also regarded as second worst UC by people i know after riverside not incluiding Merced.

SB is much better than ucsd. First.. the school is much better... second the campus is much better... third- ucsc has a bunch of hippies that dont shower... it is worse than humbolt.... and they even have hippies living in the woods right near campus. freaky. I read a story in the sc newspaper about 3 students that took shrooms and got lost in the words for 6 days! SIX DAYS!these kids were like 1/4 mile from their classes!nuts.... when you throw a bunch of liberals on one campus its going to lead to trouble.

their acceptance has plunged down to 60%. Second worst? no. that is an ignorant statement. You are assuming that a college is good or bad depending on the acceptance rates. Which is just plain stupid. Irvine, SB, UCD, and SC are all considered the same in terms of reputation . UCSD is slightly higher, and cal and LA are at the top. I have heard from many employers, grad students and teachers that only UC berkely and UC LA have any real distinction from the rest of the campuses. Everything else is just constructed in peoples minds to make themselves believe they are better than others. Bottom line, none of the UC's besides LA and cal mean **** compared to IVY leagues in terms of bogus prestigue. Santa Cruz may be easier to get into than some of the other uc's but that doesnt mean its a bad school. Their academics could be just as rigorous as any other university. And their teachers could be better than those at any said school. Bottom line, sc isnt the hardest school to get into. It may not have the same prestigue as others, but its a damn fine university compared with all of the colleges in the country and certainly isnt any worse than sb davis irvine or riverside. Youre an idiot if you think you can accurately dismiss an entire university based on hearsay from elitist academia whores.

to summarize my juggernaut of a post, all the uc's are great, and only berkeley and UCLA have any real prestigue distinction to grad schools and employers. regardless of admittance rates you trolls! :)

wow...first off any overall college rankings puts ucsd over ucla and the average gpa for incoming freshman is over .4 higher at davis and sb than sc. Nobody said ucsc was a bad school.. it just isnt on the same level as davis, sb or i. Check the rankings... look at the graduation rates, ASK students that are at the school. All my friends that are at ucsc tell me how great the campus is, and how great the town is... but when you ask them how the professors are they just shrug it off.

With all that said.... all these freshman found out about their acceptance from ucsc, but the website hasnt updated for me yet... anyone else hear from them?

like i said, sc is easier to get into than some of the others. Some* of the other schools attract students with a slightly higher gpa granted. But again, no grounds for a value judgement by any means. And no i have never seen UCLA below ucsd, that is laughable even if someone were to show me. UCLA Berkeley and SD are top schools. And what the hell is wrong with liberals anyways? I have also heard the opposite about the professors there, I have heard from a berkeley GSI who went to sc that the professors at sc are the most compassionate interesting and intelligent instuctors shes ever had. she said with the exception of Searle, most pro's at berkeley are uninterested in the students and preoccupied with their own research. She said although the grading curve at berkeley makes things mor cut-thoat, she genuinely learned more at SC. Its one of the resons why Im going there, I have guaranteed admission to sc and sb, im choosing sc. U r right about the drug ******** though, did anyone see the expose in rolling stone magazine on how sc is the biggest weed campus in the us?

Oh and about the notification. i talked to a friend who said only freshmen will find out at the same time. The transfers will come in waves supposedly.

i wouldnt mind going to sc, but its the last on my list. I have my heart set on SB... i fell in love with the campus and the academics are very good. Whenever a school can be top 40 in public universities and top 5 in partying you got to go there! SD is my second choice... only because they dont offer dorms to transfers and having to find an apt. is just another hassle i dont want to have to deal with. Davis is third because its so close to tahoe, sf, and other good places to VISIT (not live). So... who knows... i may be dorming with you at sc... that is, if i get in and s*** hits the fan with my other schools!

well i hope i dont dorm with someone as negative and close-minded as you :). The open minded liberal atmosphere of santa cruz is great. the campus is wonderful. Great grassroots political community. no cutthroat elitism but hey if you are into that thing...
Dude, sc last? come on! Davis? youd kill yourself from boredom. A lot of republicans and neo-cons go there which you seem to be. might suite you well. I hope you get into youre first choice at sb though. you totally sound like the kind of person that would go there, and that way you wont spoil it for me and the rest of the treehugging slackers :). Good luck and if you get in join like twelve faternities!

oh and by the way, cc is more like purgatory than prison, a very long and boring purgatory...

i'm torn by frats. Iwant to join one, but i'd like to keep my options open, go party jumping, ect. Drinking is a must in davis....

dude frats are of the utmost lame. Pray to the heavens we arent roomies :).

you dont like getting s*** faced and ------- the first girl you see? college is great.

looks like the chances just got greater... i got into sc.
