UCSC APPEALS 2018

Ok, so I’m appealing to UCSC as a freshman who’s on the waitlist, but I don’t know how I’m supposed to submit the appeal. First of all, how do I complete the application verification? I don’t know my student id number, where do we find that? And since they asked for fall 2017 grades, do we just write like in this class i got this grade or do we send in our unofficial transcript? Do we mail in the unofficial transcript? Please help I’m super confused and I emailed UCSC and called them but haven’t gotten any response and I need to turn in my appeal ASAP

Appeal of Admission Denial: Freshman Application

The Appeal of Admission Denial is not an alternate method for admission. The appeal process operates within the same admission criteria set by the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid (CAFA) for the given year, inclusive of the standards for Admission by Exception.

Appeal Deadline: March 31, annually, 11:59:59 p.m.

Appeal Transmittal: Online at admissions.ucsc.edu/apply/appealsubmit. Appeals submitted by any other method will not be considered.

Appeal Content: The student must include a letter of appeal containing reasons for the appeal and a short statement supporting the request for reconsideration. Students must indicate all coursework currently in progress. Students must upload a copy of their high school transcript (an unofficial transcript is acceptable) that includes their fall grades. For students who have also completed college coursework, a copy of the collegiate record(s) must also be uploaded (unofficial copies are also acceptable). The appeal may optionally include a single letter of recommendation from a source who can speak to the student’s potential for academic success.

Appeal Review: The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is delegated authority to act on appeals of admission denial for freshman applicants.

Appeal Considerations: The Office of Admissions will consider, relative to all first-year students offered admission, a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the student’s senior year grades, the strength of the student’s senior year academic schedule, a letter of recommendation (if submitted), and any error on the part of the Office of Admissions. If there is nothing new or compelling, an appeal may not be appropriate. If a student’s senior year grades have gone down, or if a student has already earned a grade of D or F in any ‘a-g’ course in their senior year, an appeal will not be granted.

Appeal Outcomes: The appeal may be granted or denied. Requests to be placed on the admissions waitlist will be denied. Applicants whose appeal is denied are encouraged to apply, if eligible, as transfer students in a future year.

Appeal Response: Appeals that are submitted by the deadline will receive an email response to their appeal no later than April 20, annually.

Hi my DS is accepted a position on the waitlist and then sent in an appeal. He submitted, but never received a confirmation email that they received it. For those of you on waitlist and did an appeal, did you receive an e-mail through the portal that your appeal was received?

@oilerhb yeah i got it the day i sent it in. did your son send it in past the due date? i got an email saying my appeal was denied on april 18th

No, He sent it in by the due date and it said that his appeal was submitted when he clicked submit button. If you tried to submit now, for example, the portal says it is past the deadline. Thank you so much for your reply. I will have him check with admissions tomorrow.

We will have to keep our fingers crossed for the wait list.

I’m a transfer student that just sent my appeal in a few days ago. Not I have to wait up t 21 days more for a response xD

my portal just updated today saying that they received my appeal.

We have received your appeal for admission reconsideration.

If you are appealing your original admission decision, responses to first-year (freshman) applicants will be emailed no later than April 20, 2018. Responses to appeals from transfer applicants will be responded to no later than May 25, 2018.

If you are appealing the cancellation of your admission, responses are normally sent within six weeks of the receipt of the complete appeal. In rare instances when additional information is required, the response time may take longer than six weeks.

For more information, please consult the appeals information on the Admissions website.
