UCSC chances?

I very passionately want to get into UC Santa Cruz. I am still a junior in high school with a LOT of freshman mistakes in my transcript. I'm running out of internet classes I'm allowed to use, and my average gpa is about 2.6 or so. I am involved in multiple non-profit organizations, 2 of them for neglected children and the other for helping the poor.

At first I wanted to apply with a game-making major (because I have been making games on my own for a looong time), but seeing as my math isn't soaring through the roof, i decided I would change it to video arts. The logic being that I'm excelling in Video Arts, and also I could change my major if I get into college. In addition, I am interning on a job that supports video arts. The twist in the essay would be me using video as a way to shape the community. huehuehue.

Anyways, My high school career has been improving from a Ds and Fs in 9th grade; to Ds and Cs in 10th; and Cs and Bs in Junior year so far. What can I do or invest in right now to help me be seen by admissions? Or have I messed up too many times to be accepted into a UC? (I have postponed my taking the SAT/ACT so I can study longer, and I am a pretty good essay writer)

Help! (especially people who have gotten in with low gpa help mee!)

Thanks

You need a minimum of 3.0 weighted to even apply for any UC schools. I suggest a CSU or a CC transfer. Good luck!

3.0 gpa cumulative? or just in sophomore & junior year?

Do you have a CSU in mind as a safety? You just can’t pin all your hopes on UCSC even if the capped UCGPA was a 3.0 or better…

I have another safety school yes. I understand that my reach college is UCSC which means that even if I were to attain a 3.0, I still may not get in. My question is what I would be able to right now to at least ensure that they will consider me, or if I am already a toss-away.

…bump…

I need you guy’s input! Please help me!

Go to a california community college, continue to pursue what you’re passionate about and get to know yourself and improve your study habits. Get good grades, keep above a 3.0, and after a year there, visit the transfer admissions office and do a TAG with UCSC.

Trust me, you’ll be happier both with the quality of your undergraduate education as well as the money you save. I graduated high school with a 2.4 because I just didn’t give a darn until I was in my senior year.

It can be done, and with a TAG, you are guaranteed to get in as long as you have the minimum GPA (A 3.0) Definitely takes the stress off. :)

Good luck.

Thanks katy! I appreciate the feedback! I am considering that. But, if there is a possibility that I can go to a lower tier school like UCM or UCR, I’d rather head off there because I really need to leave my town. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Though! :)

If you do well in UCM or a CC, you can aim higher than UCSC…

@OP- the UC’s only count gpa after freshmen year. If your GPA is still lower than 3.0, then you should really go to community college. If you don’t want to stay at home, move out.

Come back here with an UCGPA… then and only then I can tell you what to aim for.

by the way my gpa is now 3.1 fyi. sorry
