So I haven't submitted my financial aid verification yet. Has anyone with an EFC of 0 receive there Financial aid package? I would like to know how much I would get.

the UC’s formulas is simple

Cost of attendence (probably over 30k) - EFC - 7.5k loan(this is standard) - 2k (average workstudy) = Amount of grants/scholarship money you recieve.

so in your situation you will definately get 20k+ of grants a year

you’ll probably get 1500 work study. That is what I got.
And they’ll give you more subsidized loans than unsubsidized ones and a perkins loan. Cover everything or maybe even more if you don’t spend as much on personal expenses/books.

I had a zero EFC. I accepted Pell Grant, tiny UCSC grant, and Calgrant, and my entire tuition has been paid for with grant money (no loans!). And, without the Calgrant (before they were relayed my info), my UCSC grant was much much larger, and so my tuition was still fully covered.

You should be golden. :)

To Empirescrumble. So without any grant how much money did u have to borrow? And I was wondering what kind of cal grant you got. I heard cal grant A is only available to be used for tuition. Is that true?

I haven’t had to borrow any money. No loans, only grants, fortunately! The grants I was awarded (through FAFSA and Calgrant) went above and beyond the tuition + fees amount, so I got money back (the portion that was in excess of the tuition) for books, supplies, etc. As for specific Calgrants, I hesitate to assert anything about it, because I don’t want to give you the wrong info. For more specific info on Calgrants, I’d suggest you call CSAC (CA Student Aid Commission) and the UCSC financial aid office. Or, can anyone else here get more specific for Leuzinger2010?

[edit] Also, before they had the info for my Calgrants, they had offered me a UCSC Grant, which was as much as the Calgrant (give or take). My tuition was still covered (at least for this year) by all the aid offered. I’m not sure if this makes a difference, but I was a winter transfer, so I’m not sure if that means a full year’s tuition for me was concentrated and distributed among the 3 out of 4 quarters I’m at UCSC during this financial aid year. It could be the case, that, since I’ll be at UCSC for all of next financial aid year/school year, my quarterly aid would decrease. Hope that makes sense. I’m confusing myself just trying to explain it, haha. Anyone know if that’s the case?

so are u saying they paid u the full year but only for 3 quarters?

I’m not saying that that’s definitely the case, because I’m not sure. I’ll have to wait until next year’s financial aid offers come out before I can really know, unless someone else happens to know whether or not that’s what happens. Btw, I got Calgrant B (access & fee).
