Hello guys
I got accepted into UCSC and pretty happy about that but I have a little problem. During my winter quarter, I was taking 21 units (max is 20 at my school, I had to go to 2 different schools) and broke my collarbone. I was unable to drive for about a month and a half. This resulted in me failing one my math class which is a major requirent. I am a computer science major and this class is needed for graduation. Right now, the math class I need is full and I might not be able to take it until the summer. So this made a big change in my spring quarter schedule because I am taking classes for csu just in case ucsc takes back my adminssion. So my planned courses will be totally different. But on the bright side, I have every single requirement done except for that math class and I have 105+ uc transferable units. Do you guys think there is a chance ucsc might change their mind and take back my adminssion? I have reported my winter grades. I did fairly well in my other classes, A, B, B, and D+ (67% so close to passing). Please let me now if you guys have been in this sort of situation and what happened.

desperation bump

I don’t know too much on the admission process of UCSC but looking at the other uc’s, I would probably look at it as a 50/50. Some schools are more lenient on pre reqs and generally still accept you to complete those pre reqs at their school. Some schools are more strict on their policy. Maybe I’ve admissions a call and ask what’s up.

Contact admissions ASAP and get this figured out. Math is very important for CS majors and if the school is not aware that you’ll be taking the class in the summer they may reconsider your acceptance.

I am still waiting to see if I can get in this spring, then I will let them know

I suggest you head to the xfer center at your CC and see if one of the counselors can call up one of their contacts at UCSC and find out (maybe even negotiate) for you. At most CCs the xfer counselors have people they work with regularly at the UCs and it seems this will be more helpful than just sending in a letter; but you’ve done the right thing by notifying them.

Best of luck; let us know how it turns out!

Just to update, I also got into UC Davis with the same situation. They were quick to respond and said that it was ok because I had a lot of units and that math class was not a “core” class although its required on assist.org. I just need to retake it and pass by the end of Spring. Still no word for UCSC. A lot of people have been telling me that failing a math class is serious but I guess its not.
