Just got in today
Hey Guys I just got an email for UCSC that says:
“Thank you for your interest in UC Santa Cruz. After a thorough review of your application, we have determined that although you are a strong candidate for admission to UC Santa Cruz, you do not meet the major preparation selection requirements to be admitted into your proposed major of Computer Science. We would, however, like to offer you admission into one of our non-selective majors for fall 2018.”
No update on my portal though.
My Stats:
GPA: 3.57 when I applied but it has gone slightly down
Missing Pre-Reqs: I’m not sure the exact course numbers but I’m missing 2 prereqs which is my last calc class and discrete mathmatics
@lovelei I got the exact same thing… and I met all the prerequisites with a 3.7 GPA for computer science too
@AyGrey Did it say on your email “you do not meet the major preparation selection requirements” ? Because if you did meet all of them maybe it was a mistake. I asked a counselor before I applied and she said that they admit students with 1 or 2 missing reqs but maybe things changed this year?
What are you going to do?
I’m waiting to hear back from SD for cognitive science so HOPEFULLY I get in cause I did TAG to UCI and get accepted but with the way things are going so far I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay above a 3.4 so really SD is like my last choice at this point. :’(
@lovelei @AyGrey I’m also a CS major, and did not receive that email (yet). GPA 3.89 but I’m missing 2 pre-reqs, discrete mathematics and data structures I believe (I took C++ Data Structures but they only take Java Data Structures from my school (annoying) ).
I got the email that I didn’t meet the prerequirements for Economics and an offer to an non impacted major. This blows since the class I’m “missing” is Calc II which I’m taking this semester. 
@lovelei I have no idea. I might as well appeal. And yeah it said that on mine.
@Twenmi Weird. They took C++ Data Structures for me. Worst case scenario you get the same email… I got mine at 3:13.
@Cinsix I know when I talked to the counselor she also said that if I’m taking any prereqs during the summer (which I had planned to) to put that in the application for consideration but I guess that didn’t matter either. Also I would definitely call them if you’re in that class cause that doesn’t seem right.
@Cinsix I’m taking some prerequisites this current quarter so if they don’t accept that that’s really stupid
I got into UC Santa Barbara though but for Mathematics( my alt major). I’m very discouraged right now.
@lovelei yeah on assist it states under the Data Structures req that 17C (C++ DS) is denied. I also found it strange because no other school did that
I think I saw earlier in the post, there are people missing cal got in as well?
Hey guys, i got that email today about not meeting prerequisites for CS. I replied asking exactly which one I failed to meet so hopefully i receive a response soon enough. I got into UCSB for mathmatical Science as a back up but was really hoping to atleast get into UCSC for CS…

@OhHeyThere69 I am in the EXACT same boat as you. Got into UCSB for mathematics as a back up as well. Denied for Comp Sci from Santa Cruz. And I had ALL THE PREREQUISITES DONE. I don’t understand why they would reject me. I just don’t get it. I’m going to appeal.

Are you sure u took all the pre-req? Did you check on assist?
