I’m a future UCSC student who is interested in majoring in marine biology. I have not been able to find a lot of clear information about the marine biology program’s quality. Naturally, I would assume it ranks well due to its location next to the Monterey Bay, but I’d still like to see if anybody has any concrete information about the prestige/quality of their program.
I don’t know a whole lot but this year when I applied to colleges I was torn between wanting to major in marine biology and animal science. So naturally I researched the ucsc program since I was less knowledgeable about marine biology than animal science. SC has a lot of resources for marine bio majors. They have a marine lab and they work closely with a facility in Monterey Bay which has a bunch of marine animals. SC also has seals and dolphins which I believe they do research with. Overall I think it has a pretty good resources and if you want another uc option that could be good, try ucsb (they have a major called aquatic science I think)
They have an outstanding program.
