UCSC Move In

I live 7 hours away from UCSC & I was wondering if after move in day if my parents could stay with me before they hit the road. My move in day is Sept . 22 they would sleep the night then leave Sept. 23 early morning. Is this possible ?

This is the UCR thread.

I am guessing no, but call housing. There could be liability issues. I am sure the city of Santa Cruz has low rates hotels.

No the school would discourage your parents staying in the dorms that first night. Where would they sleep?

If you are a freshman you are likely to be in a triple or a double. There will be 1-2 other new students in that same room. Would this be comfortable for them? This is supposed to be a time for you to get to know your roommates, hall mates and the university.

If you are a transfer student and are lucky enough to get a single, then I might be able to get away with it. But I would discourage it.

I would have your parents looks for a hotel in town. Santa Cruz is expensive and hotels will be busy and charing premiums since it’s a beach destination. Or Maybe a motel on the road on the way home, depends on what direction you are driving.

In addition before you book anything you might want to confirm that move in date.

The hotels know that it’s going to be move in day that week and will charge up the butt for cheap motel rooms. I almost shat myself when I had to book a room for orientation.
