Well, I am a transfer student that was applying to UC’s for a transfer this fall 2020 however due to my Fall 2019 semester not going to well due to an unexpected family bereavement and other familial issues causing me to basically fail my whole semester and not go through the correct prep work for my major in the time limit I was given. I was going to finish my gen chem series along with my year of calculus and get started with biology however it was all moved forward a semester for I am repeating classes to get better grades this Spring. I basically gave up the idea of getting accepted in any UC due to the drastic change in GPA of my semester and wasn’t expecting any acceptance. However, I recently got an email saying I could get admission to UCSC with a non-screening major as compared to my previous Human Bio major. The catch is that I would not be able to switch back to my stated major in my application if I went through with it and it would be hard to switch to any major/ department in general. The only reason I am considering taking the opportunity is to get into a UC and possibly transfer to another UC if my major change is not approved. Is it hard for this to be possible or would it be a bad choice? Also due to my Fall 19 being a mess, I wouldn’t be able to complete the series I was hoping to complete and my plan to complete before getting this email was to have gen chem, bio series and my calc done by fall 20 and possibly look to transfer in the winter or spring quarter of a private school. I had really given up on the idea of UC’s so this is pretty surprising. Please help me out, I would appreciate any advice.
