UCSC or UCR? Help!!

I'm stuck between deciding which school. I live in Los Angeles right now, and one side I really want to go to UCSC because its beautiful, has higher rankings, and just seems very fun. On the other hand, I have UCR only an hour and a half drive, it also seems like a nice school, and my family/significant other/puppy really don't want me to leave. I got great financial aid from both schools (only have to pay like $700 more to go to UCSC) but is one school really that much better than the other? I see that UCR is really looked down upon... is UCSC better? My major at UCSC is Proposed Film and Digital Media. At UCR it is Media and Cultural Studies. Does Anyone know what these are like at the schools?

I'm sorry for all my questions but anything helps! thank you so, so much!

UCSC really is better than UCR, and your going to college should not be influenced at all by what other people want you to do. It sounds like you want to go to UCSC more; I’d go with that.

As far as I’ve seen, UCSC is seen as a small step above UCR, and it’s also known to have a better quality of life for its student body. IMO you should try to get somewhat out of your comfort zone for college, and Nor Cal is pretty different from the LA area. But if you’re really leaning toward UCR, forget about the supposed difference between the two (it’s small if existent). Go with the one that you’d truly be happy attending.

Definitely UCSC.

Thank you so much for the replies! You all gave me answers I wanted to hear.

& Dyno0919, you’re right. I do want to go to UCSC, so I probably should go with that. I showed my mom the replies and she seems a little bit more accepting now that she’s starting to understand its what I want!

SANTA CRUZ!!! They’re the banana slugs =)

UCSC! I would avoid UCR…you need a change of environment.
