ucsc or...

hey
i got accepted to UMD and UC santa cruz, they are both out of state for me and i want to major in biology. i wanted to see what you guys think ? (consider the medical school oppurtunities after graduation also)

If you’re thinking about med school, we have a Health Sciences major that satisfies all requirements for that.
What makes this major unique to UCSC is that it requires students to take a medical Spanish course as well as do a field internship.
“In recent years, UCSC students who applied to medical school with MCAT scores and a GPA similar to the national average were accepted at a rate of 40% - 50%.”
[Health Science Acceptance Data](http://careers.ucsc.edu/health/acceptance.html)

thank you … any other one?

Visit both schools and see what you think…

The statistics that aleiram51 provided are very misleading. You may be thinking, Hey, that means that if I meet the nationwide average numbers, I can go to UCLA med school. What the numbers mean is that half of the students get into “a” medschool, not necessarily their top pick. Just be aware.

The sciences at SC are very good. I don’t know much about UMD.

where are you from? what type of climate do you like, do you like big city vs. small town, beach vs forest, huge college rivalry vs. relaxed atmosphere, do you want to attend football games? because ucsc does not have a team.

if you answer close to:
-hot summers temporate winters, small town, beach OR forest :), relaxed atmosphere, and doesnt matter; go to ucsc
-warm summers snowy winters, city, college rivalry, and football=hell yes, go to umd.

heres some cool stuff about ucsc [43 Things you might not know about UC Santa Cruz](<a href=“<% On Error Resume Next Dim PID if Request("PID") <> "" then PID = Trim(Request("pid")) else PID = Trim(Request("PressReleaseId")) End If if IsValidPid(pid) Then Dim PageTile PageTitle = GetPageTitle(PID) Response.Write PageTitle Else PID = 0 End If On Error Goto 0 %>”><% On Error Resume Next Dim PID if Request("PID") <> "" then PID = Trim(Request("pid")) else PID = Trim(Request("PressReleaseId")) End If if IsValidPid(pid) Then Dim PageTile PageTitle = GetPageTitle(PID) Response.Write PageTitle Else PID = 0 End If On Error Goto 0 %>)
umd has a great lacrosse team, good (i think) football team, and tons of other athletics. plus umd is right around the corner from washington DC and the capital… pretty cool.

you have to decipher all of these points for yourself, though

the only thing that really matters for me is the academics and going to a good med school after graduation. what do you guys think now?

guys, i posted the same thing in UMD forum and i got more responses, come on…
just kidding, thank you for your advices

UCSC has had a lot of successful people… i hear about NASA peeps and doctors all the time… not sure of the actual numbers but I saw something about UCSC med school applicants having a higher than normal acceptance rate into med school.

this can also be because of such a low amount of students at UCSC that a low amount of successful applicants make big %, but what i remember reading (just off the top of my head) was like 40%.

sorry tho, i dont know much about UMD. all i know is its lacrosse central…ps i play lacrosse if you hadnt noticed.

look at the link i posted, and remember that if you arent happy at ANY campus, regardless of its prestige, you arent going to be successful. dont go to UMD if you hate cold weather and snow… you will suffer. Dont go to UCSC if you dont like being around wildlife. check stuff out man, make sure you make a decision for your books AND your heart or you might just crash and burn. i know plenty of people who have, if you would like to know
