Hello all,
I got placed on the waitlist and am also thinking of planning my summer. Do you know when SIP reaches out to the interns on the wait list?
SIP, BU RISE intern , BU RISE Practicum which one is better ? thx
@gotocollege111 BU rise is much more prestigious and I think the overall experience is better
@mona03 hey! I had some friends in anthro last year who had an awesome time. I’d say that if it is an area that you are interested/the project seems interesting to you and you are seriously considering sip as an option (rather than potentially other programs), then go for it! Don’t let the fact that it “isn’t a hard core science project” deter you, as research experience at this age, regardless of how “hardcore science-like” it is, is always valuable. I believe that you’ll learn a lot more beyond just the workings of the project, stuff like how to conduct yourself in a lab environment, how to interact with other researchers/PIs, and how to present your research.
Has anyone on the waitlist heard back from SIP yet?
Any advice on SIP vs COSMOS? College goal: Computer Science in a upper tier university in California.
COSMOS: Accepted for Descret Math and Number Theory cluster. SIP: Acceptable for CS AL/NLS project.
Thanks for all the input.
I am currently a rising Junior.
@ablejoy Cosmos is more popular and more competitive (lower acceptance rate for most campuses) so i would recommend going for cosmos.
@ablejoy I also wondered which one would be best and i think that SIP is the better choice. Even though it’s not as selective and as well-known, i’m sure the 8 ish weeks you’ll be there will give you more experience than the 4 at COSMOS. I attended COSMOS last summer and am going to SIP for the first time this summer btw.
Hey ablejoy! I attended COSMOS last year as a sophomore and I am going to SIP this year. I think it depends on what you want out of the program. COSMOS is definitely more structured and based on lectures, and you are required to attend more recreational activities with your peers.
Just wondering, is it better to go home everyday via the shuttle or should I stay in on campus housing? I don’t want to spend a lot of time on required recreational activities because I need to study for my SAT IIs so I don’t know if I should home every day (also it’s cheaper that way haha).
@LeinaT Same, i decided to stay there for 2 weeks but then commute the rest since it’s a lot cheaper and I can do things at home
Does anyone have any tips on how to pay the $3000 program fee. We are having trouble finding the link in the payment portal. Only the deposit payment is showing up.
Has anyone received an email yet about open projects? I’m on the waitlist but haven’t seen that sent out for the METx and MCB projects.
For those who were accepted, I paid the $300 but the rest of the payment is not available to be made on the payment portal. Is anyone else in the same situation?
@tofudeer I believe this is what the staff told me: click the “New Registration” button near the top, enter the code: sip2019pay, and click the “Submit Code” button. Let me know if it works out for you!
@hellopotato Yup, works thanks!
Does SIP allow delaying the start date?
kinda late now, but is anyone else still on the waitlist? Should I just assume I have slim to none chances of getting in?
It’s been over a month since deadlines and they said project placement would come out in “several weeks” hmm…
BTW if anyone who got in could share the list of accepted applicants/screenshot and link it it would be great ?
