UCSC to UCB or UCLA transfer for sociology

Hi,

I'm planning on applying for jr. transfer from UCSC to UCB/UCLA this upcoming november, and I need some tips as to what I need to know in order to make sure I'm the most competitive. The main confusions I have are about the major prereqs for each of the two schools and the GEs for the Universities. Do I need to have both Prereqs and GEs completed for both schools at UCSC in order to be eligible for transfer? Thanks

hello, i was wondering what you dont like UCSC as I am iffy about going there. I would appreciate it if you would share your experience. As for your question, im sorry im not of any help.

You need to have a REALLY strong GPA. Sociology is already one of the most competitive majors to transfer in to at UCLa, and UC->UC transfers are the last priority for admission to UCLA.

^UC-UC transfers have the same priority as CCC-UC transfers at UCLA. Learn the facts before posting.

For Sociology, you are going to need a high GPA. We are probably talking 3.6+ in prereqs and overall GPA.

For competitive majors, it is advised for you to complete as many prerequisites as possible to make yourself more competitive, but this is not a requirement.

You do not need to complete your UCSC GEs in a timely manner. As long as you complete them by the Spring before you transfer, you will be able to sign UC reciprocity and will not need to take GE classes at UCLA/Cal.

As long as your GPA is top notch, you have a reasonable shot. Good luck.

I meant to say that 4 year University -> UC transfers have the last priority.

However, Cali Trumpet, learn YOUR facts before correcting others.

Directly from UC’s website: “Priority consideration The University gives junior-level community college students first priority over other transfer applicants, including those from four-year institutions and UC’s own intercampus transfer students.”

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_info_ccc.html

^^actually you’re wrong

“We give highest priority to students who are transferring from California community colleges or other University of California campuses.”

[Transfer Admission Guide - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](Transfer Admission | UCLA Undergraduate Admission)

straight from the ucla transfer website.

Yeah, but you and I both know that CCC students have priority over students from other UC’s. They’re talking about CCC students and UC students versus other 4 years Universities and colleges.

hey guys, i just transferred to UCLA from UCDAVIS with bio major. i also got into berkeley too. it wasn’t that hard. i just had an average gpa with no extracurricular stuff. i advise you to finish your GE at UCSC tho. you might retake bunch of classes if you can’t finish GE…

^Yep… it’s not that hard or uncommon. Some people have the idea that UC to UC transfers are impossible :P

If you have a decent GPA, just go for it and ignore those who say “CCC have priority over UC students, therefore its unlikely that you will be admitted as a UC-UC transfer student.” Just look at the stats on statfinder and you will see that UC to UC transfers are not only very common, but the process is very transparent and straight forward as well.

Last year the admit rate of UC to UCLA transfers was almost 28%, while the admit rate from CCC was about 35.5%. Although the numbers favor CCC students, there could be many other factors involved (more difficult classes at UCs, not having the GEs or pre-reqs done, etc,).

I do agree there is a misconception that transferring from UC-UC is significantly harder than transferring from CCC. It seems a bit harder, but nothing drastic.
