Hello, I am planning to reapply to UC Irvine while currently attending UC Santa Cruz. My major is Biology B.S. And I will most likely apply as a biological sciences for Irvine. My question is, what are my chances based on what my stats will be after fall quarter? If all goes accordingly, I wil have a 3.68 gpa, finished bio pre req courses by fall and if not, latest by winter quarter. I will also have finished general eds by spring and if not, would only be missing two general Eds. What are my chances? Am I in good standing? Major, honest feedback, especially from those who have successfully done uc intercampus transfer would be helpful, thank you!
You have a good chance, but make sure to finish your general ed requirements, it’ll save you headaches later. UCLA’s Biology acceptance rate was pretty high in 2014, with the average GPA admitted a 3.72. I don’t know the difference between that and Biological Sciences, but it seems that you have a solid chance.
I’d say you have a very decent shot. UCI doesn’t post a breakdown of their admissions statistics, but check out this thread to compare your stats with other bio sci majors that were accepted:
Also, I am an intercampus transfer (except I’m leaving UCI! lol) so if you have any questions about that aspect of the application process, feel free to shoot them my way
@goldencub @fncrane thanks! And @fncrane which are you transferring to? And in regards to the personal statements when applying, what are some things I can do this summer that’ll help me with it? (In terms of types of activities and experiences that I could write about because in all honesty Im not having a very productive summer and think that I would not have much to write about myself that would stand out) and also, what are the key deadlines and is a high school transcript needed? I know it’s a lot but I really wanna be sharp when the application process comes closer, thanks!
I’m headed to UCLA!
UC application deadlines are the same as for the freshman application. I believe it opens Aug. 1, and the deadline is Nov. 30. I think those are the only deadlines you need to worry about for now. You don’t have to worry about sending transcripts until you are admitted to your new school, and most UC’s don’t require a high school transcript when you transfer - if they need one they’ll let you know.
Personal statements aren’t as important as they were for freshman admission, but I suggest highlighting an activity that pertains to your major that you enjoy. For instance, I applied as a math major, so I talked about working as a math tutor at a learning center and how much I enjoyed working with the younger kids.
@JNRL18 I’m also an intercampus transfer from UCSC! I was on the bioengineering track at Santa Cruz so if you have any specific questions, I’d be happy to help. I was admitted to UCI this year so it’s definitely possible!
@Lemanie Sounds Good! What gpa did you have, and we’re you finished with all your pre reqs by the fall quarter when you applled? Also did you get a letter of reprocity? How long did you have to wait for acceptance and could I use my winter 2016 grades too bolster my gpa?
@fncrane Congratulations! And how many personal statements were there? Also what was your transfer gpa? Like the fully updated one after you applied and finished fall quarter?
@goldencub was the high admit rate and average gpa you stated for intercampus or cc?
2, just like the freshman one, except the first essay is different. Instead of “describe the world you come from” it’s more like “why do you want to study this?” My GPA was 3.65
@JNRL18 I believe it’s for all transfers. Your coming from a UC won’t really negatively impact your chances, it’s just easier from a CC, and CC students have slightly higher priority for UCLA (I think).
@fncrane alright I see and well, that definitely gets my hopes up consider how much harder ucla is to get into so what more of a less competitive like Irvine right?
@goldencub alright, thank you
@Lemanie and @fncrane also when transferring when they say completing pre reqs for your major, does that pretty much mean complete the classes needed to decalre your major at UCSC (campus im transferring from) or does UCI have a specific list that has to be completed?
Prep for the school you’re transferring to - UCI

I messaged you but for your last question, you can either call them to see if they have a list of classes specific for UCSC transfers for your major, or go on assist.org and cross reference between a community college to see if a class at UCSC fulfills a certain required class at UCI. But for the most part, I think biology should be pretty straightforward on what classes you need to take. Perhaps ask about which specific math & physics sequence you should take?
@Lemanie alright, but how bad would it be if I had one c my first fall quarter freshman year on my transcript and what if I’m missing one pre req? It says I have to take a whole year (three quarters) of organic chemistry but I might only be able to take two
