I’m in my 3rd semester at a CCC. I am so confused with the whole UCSC transferring requirements ( and the counselor at my college isn’t helping me understand it). I’m planning to transfer as neuroscience major. will complete all major requirements by the end of spring 2020 (still have physic series and a stat for major preparation courses). I don’t think Im able to finish my IGETC by spring 2020.
My question is “should I apply to transfer in November?” “Is it a waste of time if I spend another year at CC?”
You don’t need to finish IGETC, especially in Neuroscience. Apply this Nov, and if you’re missing 1-2 IGETC courses you can get what’s called Partial IGETC and finish in summer or at the UC— or you can just forget about IGETC entirely and complete four classes in behavioral science, arts and humanities and sciences. You have the latter area already so just need a couple within social, arts or humanities. There’s also a STEM-IGETC that lets you get partial missing three courses. There are specific rules and you need to see if your college allows it.
Regardless of the option, once accepted, you can always ask to do a couple of the classes at the CCC during summer right before admission to get them off your plate.
Talk to an advisor about your options but do not NOT apply because of IGETC.
